During her keynote session, Clemente addresses identity intersectionality as a bridge to inclusion.

This report discusses the FY2019 appropriations request for the Department of Health and Human Services. The report begins by reviewing the department's mission and structure. Next, the report offers a brief explanation of the conventions used for the FY2018 estimates and FY2019 request levels in the budget documents released by the HHS and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). It Belongs in a Museum: Sovereign Immunity Shields Iranian Antiquities Even When It Does Not Protect Iran

This report discusses the Supreme Court's decision in the case of "Rubin v. Islamic Republic of Iran" where the court ruled that the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) did not permit U.S. victims of Iran-sponsored terrorist attacks to seize a collection of Persian antiquities on loan from Iran to a museum at the University of Chicago. The background of the case and case law about the FSIA is also discussed.

Bankruptcy and Student Loans

This report discusses This report provides a comprehensive overview of the various legal issues related to whether, and under what circumstances, a debtor may discharge a student loan in bankruptcy. The report begins by providing general background on bankruptcy law and the principles governing the discharge of outstanding debt. In so doing, the report explains how and why the Bankruptcy Code generally makes student loans nondischargeable absent an "undue hardship." The report then describes the various legal standards that courts have applied when determining whether a particular debtor is entitled to an undue hardship discharge. The report closes by describing various potential considerations for Congress, including ways in which Congress could alter the Bankruptcy Code's current treatment of student loans.

Video recording of the performance, What We Talk About When We Talk About Race. What We Talk About When We Talk About Race is the culmination of a year-long discussion and production process that took place between African-American and White students and professors in the Department of Communication Studies. What began as a set of informal dinners, in which they slowly, haltingly, and gradually told stories about themselves, their families, and their histories with race, has resulted in a devised production that includes personal narrative and adaptations of literature that reveal what they learned on their journey from conversations to a performance that has been collaboratively conceived, written, and directed. Among their performances, the play served as the finale for this year’s 2018 Equity and Diversity Conference. The conference cut of this performance also features Shawn Brewer of Peterbilt, the conference’s production sponsor.
