Investigation of axially symmetric flow over steps at transonic speeds with comparisons of estimated and experimental drag results (open access)

Investigation of axially symmetric flow over steps at transonic speeds with comparisons of estimated and experimental drag results

Report presenting an investigation of the problem of predicting the experimental wave drag for configurations which have discontinuities in area distribution and thus infinite theoretical wave drag. The agreement between the experimental and computed drags of the ring-body combinations without fillets was very poor. Results regarding the drag coefficients and estimation of wave drag and pressure coefficients and estimation of total drag are provided.

Some Properties of Wing and Half-Body Arrangements at Supersonic Speeds (open access)

Some Properties of Wing and Half-Body Arrangements at Supersonic Speeds

Report presenting an investigation of the certain wing-body combinations as measured by the lift-drag ratio for two arrangements: a half-cone mounted under a triangular wing and a half Newtonian ogive similarly mounted. The configurations were tested for a range of Mach numbers from 1.5 to 5.0. Results regarding the comparison of a half-cone versus a full cone and calculated maximum lift-drag ratio are provided.

Limited heat-transfer, drag, and stability results from an investigation at Mach numbers up to 9 of a large rocket-propelled 10 degree cone

Report presenting information on the heat transfer, drag, and stability of a large rocket-propelled 10 degree cone in a flight test. The location of turbulent flow was noted and the measured drag coefficients at several locations on the cone are provided.

Caption: "Cecil B. Powers' car show Cecil B. Powers, 20, of 1920 SW 11, told police he was in the market for a new automobile Monday. Powers was driving south on Robinson and at the same time doing a little shopping from a distance in a adjacent used car lot. While shopping, Powers crashed his car into a concrete abutment on the S Robinson underpass, caving in the front of his 1947 model car. He suffered minor cuts and bruises and was charged with negligent driving. "I was figuring on a new car in the near future, and wasn't watching my driving," Powers told B. Lewellen and J. M. Watson police accident investigators. "It looks like you need a replacement right now," Lewellen told Powers." Car crashed into a stone fence.
