Caption: "Members of St. Luke's Methodist church plan to have the first meeting in the new education building at NW 15 and Harvey, May 24. The building, above, will cost an estimated $750,000, the first project of the $1,500,000 program. The congregation will leave its present building at NW 8 and Robinson June 11 for regular meetings in the new building. Construction will begin this summer on a new church auditorium to be built east of the education building, Rev William Wallace jr., pastor, said. The May 24 meeting will be the opening session of the west Oklahoma's Methodist conference annual meeting."

Caption: "Only the burned-out shells of three buildings remained Saturday as Purcell firemen began the job of cleaning up after a four-hour fire. Early damage estimates ran as high as $30,000. The fire of undetermined orgin late Friday night destroyed the McClain theater, a hatchery and the Southwest States Telephone warehouse. No one was injuried, but an estimated 4,000 chickens and eggs were destroyed with the hatchery...Van Ness, telephome company employe, was unable to estimate damage to equipment, but indicated it would be slight as compared to losses in the theater and hatchery. Press Id Destroyed The Purcell Register building, next door east of the theater, was unhurt by flames, but a new $3,000 press stored behind the theater was destroyed. A heavy fire wall between the Register and the show house kept flames from spreading, but paper stocks and other equipment was damaged by water."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Crowds, crowds, crowds, that was the story Sunday at the Southwest American exposition. The biggest jam developed at the "Atoms for Peace" exhibit where a line seven wide and 150 feet long queued up to see the exhibit. Exposition visitors were going through the "atoms" show at a clip of 4,000 per hour all day. (O-11-3-57) When Oklahoma City business men and educators joined together to form the Frontiers of Science Foundation they elected to carry the message through education and public information. One big step toward public interest was the Atoms for Peace exhibits at the Southwestern American Exposition in April 1956. here is part of the crowd that attended the exhibit - whoch averaged more than 4,000 persons per hour."

Hampered by lack of water, firemen from three municipalities watched helplessly while flames swooshed through Cedar Terrace Dance Hall, Brtton R. and N. Kelly. The club burned to the ground in less than an hour after the first call, at 9 a.m. The possibility of arson first was raised when an area resident told police he saw a man run from the building and hide in a barn just as first signs of fire was noticed. Firemen battle blaze which destroyed Cedar Terrace Dance Hall Tuesday morning."

Caption: "A new skyway marker has been painted on the top of the new hangar at the civil aeronautic center at Will Rogers field, trimming for the joint dedication of the center and the five skyways passing through Oklahoma City Saturday and Sunday. Workmen painted the letters a bright yellow, the best color for visibility. Each of the five skyways are indicated on the marker. Blanche Noyes, air marking expert for the CAA, will take part in the dedication program and aid in other airmarkings. Eldon Stout is chairman of the state program."
