Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "The State Fair of Oklahoma's B-47 crash landed from an altitude of 20 feet Saturday when a boom crane holding the tail section malfunctioned. No one was hurt, although workmen had hovered closely around and under the plane minutes earlier. The B-47, the first of three planes scheduled to be placed on the fairgrounds, was suspended from two cranes, a large one that held up most of the weight and a small one that held up the tail. A weld broke on the small crane causing the boom to bend and sending the tail crashing to the ground. A workman had stepped away seconds before the accident. Officials said damage to the tail, at right, could be repaired. Finally, after some slow and precise maneuvering, workmen got the plane secured to the post that will hold the plane above the ground."

Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "The Only Things that were high-talled about Tuesday's opening night of the annual Oklahoma City Charity Horse Show were the animal entrants. They were very high-tailed. Other than the horses, the show was a simple demonstration of some very good reasons why man might try getting a horse. Never having seen a horse show, we doubted the pleasure of watching the event. We even looked it up in Webster to be sure about what to expect. ("Horse Show - A competitive exhibition of horses and vehicles, especially as an annual fashionable event.") In This sense the Oklahoma City Charity Horse Shoe is no disappointment. The horses were on their best behavior and rider were bright and elegant in traditional habits. (photo tag: Antique cars and fashions provided intermission entertainment for the sparse audience.)"

Although Skirvin's is about one-third larger than Sheraton-Oklahoma ballroom, the latter is still billed as "largest west of the Mississippi," a Sheraton spokesman chuckled."
