A member of a military base closing review panel said Thursday the Department of Defense needs to explain how money is to be saved under its proposal to move computer systems management from Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base to a Massachusetts base. Grand Forks Air Force Base and Fargo's 1 19th Air National Guard Fighter Wing will play a "substantial" role in the Air Force's plans to use unmanned aerial vehicles, base retention leaders said Thursday.

Economic Impact *The loss of 538 military personnel represents 12% of the 4,465 assigned here. That loss represents payroll of $2 1,109,320. *The loss of 3 1 civilian personnel from the base represents 3.7% of the total. That loss equates to a payroll decrease of $91 8,340. *The loss of 305 indirect jobs (school teachers, clerks, dental assistants, etc.) represents an estimated payroll loss of $6,839,625 (305 x 22,425 which is the per capita income level of Elmore County according to the U S Census 2002) *Approximately 550 living units would be affected, either owned units that would be for sale or rentals that would become vacant. This would undoubtedly result in a downturn in the real estate market for the area *The school district would see a reduction in Impact Aid from DoD based on the specific number of children no longer enrolled here.

Base Visit Book - Patrick Air Force Base, FL Realignment Recommendations prepared for Commissioner James H. Bilbray on 09 June 2005

Base Visit Book - Patrick Air Force Base, FL Realignment Recommendations prepared for Commissioner James H. Bilbray on 09 June 2005 DoD RECOMMENDATION is to realign Patrick Air Force Base, Cape Canaveral, FL, by relocating Nuclear Test and Evaluation at the Naval Ordnance Test Unit to Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic, Kings Bay, GA. DoD JUSTIFICATION is that it realigns the stand-alone east coast facility working in full-scale Nuclear Test and Evaluation at Cape Canaveral into a fully supported Navy nuclear operational site at Kings Bay to gain synergy in security (anti-terrorism force protection), fleet operational support and mission support infrastructure. Recent changes in anti-terrorism force protection requirements, the recent establishment of the Western Test Range in the Pacific, and the programmatic decision to no longer require land based (pad) launches at Cape Canaveral all lead to the realignment/relocation of this function to Kings Bay, GA
