Bullock advises that he agrees on all four points mentioned in Carswell's letter dated March 14 and that he has never voted against redistricting. He, too, is for the "open shop", agrees that Texas has too many District Courts and thinks "that a Constitutional Convention should be called to repeal our out-moded and patched-up Constitution".

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated July 20, 1953. Burleson acknowledges the note from Carswell regarding proposals to increase mail rates. He advises that the Postmaster General made an excellent case for increasing rates to reduce the deficit, but the entire Department needs to be reorganized on a more businesslike basis.

Finsley refers to an enclosed certificate sent for Subject A-9808-A advising of a balance of $2000 to be kept in trust.

Carswell reports on a meeting held on December 12 and advises regarding the enclosed Pronouncement of this meeting in dealing with the liquor situation. Carswell requests that the Pastors and their congregations join the cause and pledge to aid the 24th Senatorial District Drys in the fight against the sale of liquor for social drinking in Dry Territory. Carswell advises of an ordinance having passed while he was away from the City, the closing of Cedar Street between Ambler Avenue and Vogle and the resulting depreciation of his property value.

Carswell advises of his travel plans, his preparation for the Lions Program and the Radford testimonial dinner ["50 Years of building Abilene"] noting the late work hours, hard work and no money. His postscript refers to late nights and tells about going to Breckenridge to the Lions Conference taking Mrs. Sandefer with him, his returning at 5 p.m., reading awhile, of going to Church then over to Barnes playing checkers and talking until late.

Carswell expresses his appreciation for help in catching a flight advising that Miss McKool was the friendly and charming messenger doing this especial service. He requests they use the check to purchase candy or a rose for McKool noting that long ago, someone said "sell a loaf and buy a rose, for the soul too must be fed".
