Patent for a new and improved rotary engine. This design consists "of a wheel provided with radially-sliding pistons and revolving within a fixed circumferential steam-chest, and having fixed on its axle an eccentric and spring, that operate to throw the pistons or floats outward to receive the pressure of the steam or other motor that is to drive the engine" (lines 19-26).

Patent for an improvement in the function and use of a valve which gets rid of the wire usually used to raise tank valves. Getting rid of this wire allows for easier drainage.

Patent for new and improved shears. This design is "adapted to be run along the top of the table or other surface, whereby the movable blade is adapted to be operated so that cloth, paper, or other material may be severed" (lines 9-13). It consists, "with a lower member provided with a handle, of a roller journaled to said member and provided with an elongated eccentric-pin an upper member pivoted to said lower member, and a rearwardly-extending projection from said upper member provided with a suitable elongated opening for the engagement of said pin" (lines 38-46).

Patent for saw gaging and setting tool designed to be a simple and efficient way to gage and set saws blades. The invention can also be used for truing saw teeth.

Novel substituted coumarin compounds and an improved method for their synthesis are disclosed. The preferred class of compounds are substituted at the 7-position. The method of synthesis comprises reacting a polyhydroxy benzene or a substituted phenol, with a ..beta..-alkoxy acrylic acid or nitrile, in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst. By the inclusion of the catalyst in the reaction mixture, the reaction can be carried out under much milder experimental conditions and in increased yields. The method is also applicable to the preparation of substituted amino phenols.

Patent for the improvement of combination flue to be more inexpensive and for the parts to be more readily assembled and properly supported.

Patent for improvements in railway switches which are especially adapted for use on street railway tracks.

Patent for a new and improved cantilever. This design consists in "the combination of the central post or column supported upon a pier or tower, the upwardly-inclined struts or beams bearing with the inner ends against the base of the post or column, the rods or cables extending from the top of the post to the ends of the struts, the rods or cables extending from the middle of the post to near the inner ends of the struts, the rods or cables extending from the ends of the struts to the middle of the post" (lines76-86).

Patent for anti-freezing appliance for water supply and drain pipes of residences and buildings. The object is provide a device connected with the main and service lines of a hours supply water system for the purpose of avoiding interfering with the operation of the service.

Patent for a cloth cleaning machine to "furnish bagging-reels, so constructed that the bagging can be conveniently unwound from the roll, measured automatically, and again wound into a roll" (lines 13-17).

Patent for an improved washing machine: "The invention consists in combining a lower cylinder having longitudinal spiral grooves with an upper cylinder having longitudinal straight grooves and holes" (lines 14-17).

Patent for an improvement in washing machines. The shaping and components are meticulously detailed and indicate they play a part in the said improvement.

Patent for "improving fruit-gatherers designed to be thrust into a tree and cull each fruit separately" (lines 17-20).

Patent for a new and improved fence or gate. This design consists in "[a] fence or gate composed entirely of pipes interchangeably connected together by couplings, and consisting of the long tubular pickets and the intermediate short tubular pickets, each long tubular picket being formed by two short tubular pickets connected by an intermediate coupling in the form of a Greek cross, a similar coupling at the top of each long and short tubular picket, and the T-shaped couplings at their bottoms, combined with a series of horizontal tubes" (lines 54-64).

An ultimate shutdown system is provided for termination of neutronic activity in a nuclear reactor. The shutdown system includes bead chains comprising spherical containers suspended on a flexible cable. The containers are comprised of mating hemispherical shells which provide a ruggedized enclosure for reactor poison material. The bead chains, normally suspended above the reactor core on storage spools, are released for downward travel upon command from an external reactor monitor. The chains are capable of horizontal movement, so as to flow around obstructions in the reactor during their downward motion.
