Harris advises regarding a copy of a discharge order and asks Headquarters if the board has the authority to send registrant 2nd Lt. A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Post Commander, Abilene, Texas, from Chas. Saft, Ruby Saft Company, Seneca, Missouri, dated August 19, 1941. Saft asks if Carswell would like to be a candidate for Representative for Congress in Washington for his district.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Mrs. Ora Parker, Roscoe, Texas, dated March 19, 1942. Parker requests a suggestion from Carswell or help in locating employment, some kind of war work. A notation by Carswell at the top of page dated April 18, 1942 advises that he suggested the USO at Sweetwater.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell from E. W. Ledbetter, Secretary-Treasurer, Hardin-Simmons University dated February 19, 1946. Ledbetter expresses to Carswell the appreciation of Hardin-Simmons University for his donation to the building fund and advises of the enclosed receipt.

A World War II-era joke in the form of a letter. The correspondence is addressed to Hebbronville Local Board No. 1, from Frank Garcia Castillo, Eagle Pass, Texas, and dated October 19, 1943. The letter begins, "I received your classification card in which you give me 4-F. But I don't like it . . . ." It is typewritten on Selective Service System letterhead.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from E. G. Haynes, Secretary to Mr. Johnson, R. H. Johnson & Co. Investment Securities, N. Y., dated February 19, 1946. Acknowledgement to Carswell of the receipt of his letter of January 16th during Mr. Johnson's absence. An assurance is given by Haynes that the address Carswell has for Thos. Cook and Sons is correct.
