The Rolling of Thorium Rod (open access)

The Rolling of Thorium Rod

Report discussing the rolling of thorium rods. Abstract: "Thorium rods, 1-7/16 inch in diameter, were rolled from Ames castings. The billets were roughed down in diamond-grooved rolls and finished in hand-rounding rolls. Remelted chips as well as primary-metal castings were rolled, and both yielded satisfactory rods. The surface quality of the rods was generally excellent, and the machined slugs were free of seams."

Some Aspects of the Radial Stability in a Magnetic Mirror Machine (open access)

Some Aspects of the Radial Stability in a Magnetic Mirror Machine

Abstract: "The radial motion of an ion in an axially symmetric magnetic field is discussed. It is pointed out that particles of constant velocity have clearly defined upper limits to their radial motion. This is a result of the other constant of the motion, the canonical angular momentum. These limits are independent of the number of times an ion is reflected from the mirrors, providing the field is truly axially symmetric."

A Description of a Shock Wave in Free Particle Hydrodynamics with Internal Magnetic Fields

Abstract: "The structure of an extremely strong magnetohydrodynamic shock is discussed in the limit of no particle collisions. It is tentatively concluded that the shock transition takes place through the mechanism of a strong electric field produced by charge separation. The pressure in the shocked plasma is due primarily to a very high electron temperature. The ions, on the other hand, undergo an irreversible temperature change of only 3."

Geology and Ore Deposits of Yazzie Mesa, Apache County, Arizona with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling (open access)

Geology and Ore Deposits of Yazzie Mesa, Apache County, Arizona with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Abstract: Yazzie Mesa was examined in May 1951, by the writer, assisted by R. C. Cutter. The mesa shows one main channel deposit and three minor channels. The main channel appears to be a northern extension of a channel deposit being worked by the Vanadium Corporation of America at their Monument No. 2 mine. Two samples taken on the south outcrop of the main channel assayed 0.16% U308 over 4.5 feet and 0.80% U308 over 1 foot. The area is recommended for 10,000 feet of exploration drilling. It is not intended to recommend this footage as a separate contract unit as this report covers only a small part of an area in which drilling will be recommended in forthcoming reports.
