A preview of the new theater-concert hall reveals little to remind one that this is the interior of Municipal Auditorium, the subject of not only physical discomfort but light humor. Carol Channing described it as "a museum piece." This "museum piece" which for years served as the city's prinicpal convention center, theater and concert hall, not to mention boxing arena and basketball court, is well on its way to having a major interior face lifting. A $500,000 bond issue is providing the funds for the new look and it definitely is new as the 5,736 seating capacity is being reduced to 3,200. the four levels of seating have essential been reduced to two. The sight lines from every seat are nothing less thna 100 percent improvement. The second or upper balcony remains in place due to structual requirements of the building but the perspective has changed considerably. The balcony, too, is smaller in both depth and width as is the entire hall. The new interior has 1,200,000 cubic feet of space compared to 1,700,000 in …
