Oklahoma-Texas Airlines, Lawton, Oklahoma

Caption: "A crowd of approximately 100 businessmen witnessed the takeoff of the Oklahoma-Texas Airline's passenger plane on its maiden trip, here Tuesday morning. This pictures shows the hangar at Lawton Municipal Airport operated by Lieut. Joe Reed, army reserve pilot." The airport was dedicated on Labor Day 1930. Joe Reed operated the airport and opened a flying school. His flying school sign can be seen in this photo. In 1931 Oklahoma-Texas Airlines began operations out of the airport which Reed later purchased from Paul Branniff and renamed it Reed Airlines. The location in 2018 of the current Lawton Public Works Building was the original hanger for the original Lawton Airport.
