The Fabrication of Subassemblies for the Supercritical-Water Reactor
In studies of the fabrication of fuel subassemblies for the supercritical-water reactor, the limited ductility of stainless steel-UOâ‚‚ fuel sheet made the fabrication of corrugated-flat-plate-type subassemblies impractical. A fabricable MTR-type assembly, 5/8 in. square and 30 in. long, was developed. Methods for edge cladding fuel sheet were developed and a brazing alloy, GE-75, was found to be corrosion resistant in supercritical water.

MEETING XII -- BEVATRON RESEARCH CONFERENCE -- BEVATRON OPERATION
On February 2, the first 10 Mev proton beau was injected from the linear accelerator. Injection parameters were varied to study first turn beams with the magnet excited by a d-c generator. A few minutes after the magnetic field had been adjusted to the value calculated from magnetic measurements. the 180{sup o} beam was observed on fluorescent flags and measured with Faraday cups. During the remainder of the week several radio frequency components were installed and operated. Ground current signals in various pieces of equipment were a limitation in detecting.

Characteristics of a Hydraulic Control Determined from Transient Data Obtained with a Turbojet Engine at Altitude
Memorandum presenting characteristics of a hydraulic control as determined by analyzing transient data obtained with a turbojet engine operating in the altitude wind tunnel. The excellent overall performance of the speed control is attributed to the elimination of large lags in the control system, thereby permitting the use of relatively high loop gains while still maintaining satisfactory damping in transients. Some information regarding the frequency-response analysis of speed control, simulation of speed control, and acceleration control are provided.

Performance of a vaporizing annular turbojet combustor at simulated high altitudes
Report presenting an experimental vaporizing annular combustor that evolved from a high-performance annular combustor developed for vapor-fuel injection. The combustor consisted of a one-quarter sector of a single-annulus combustor designed to fit in a housing with an outside diameter of 25.5 inches, an inside diameter of 10.6 inches, and a combustor length of approximate 23 inches. Results regarding the performance of the Model 29I combustor, performance of Model 30, and performance of the best combustor configuration are provided.

Comparison of Wind-Tunnel, Rocket, and Flight Drag Measurements for Eight Airplane Configurations at Mach Numbers Between 0.7 and 1.6
Report presenting comparisons of low-lift drag measurements on eight airplane configurations at a range of Mach numbers using various techniques. Data was obtained from wind-tunnel testing, rocket-propelled model testing, and airplane flight testing. The majority of the data showed agreement and discrepancies were likely due to issues regarding surface condition, individual test setup and accuracy, and detail geometric differences between the airplanes and respective models.

Performance of mixed-flow impeller, model MFI-1B, with diffuser vanes at equivalent impeller speeds from 1100 to 1700 feet per second
Report presenting an investigation of the performance characteristics of a mixed-flow impeller (Model MFI-1B) in combination with a vaned diffuser. The results indicated that the peak pressure ratio and maximum efficiency were not being obtained at overdesign speeds because of premature surge. Increasing inlet angle at the leading edge of the vanes improved the pressure ratio and efficiency at overdesign speeds with little to no effect on underdesign speeds.

The Crystal Structures of Oxalic Acid Dihydrate and Alpha Iodic Acid as Determined by Neutron Diffraction
The crystal structure of oxalic acid dihydrate and alpha iodic acid were determined by neutron diffraction. Several modern techniques were utilized in analyzing the data, including Fourier series, structure factor inequalities, statistical intensity distributions, least squares, and Fourier peak shape analysis. The positions of all the atoms, including hydrogen, were determined.

TBX plant study
A new separations plant using a Purex type flow sheet has been proposed for the 200-West area. The proposed plant, which has been named TBX, would replace the two bismuth phosphate type plants, but it would use existing 200-T and 200-U area facilities. Substantial savings in operating costs, a potential capacity increase for the 200-Areas, and a reduction in plutonium losses are incentives for making the change.
