His tan hunting cap with a bullet hole plainly visible at the back had toppled to the floor beside him. His body was found by another employee for work at about 6 a.m. Sunday."

William Edward Cook Jr. made a surprise plea for his life in federal court Tuesday when he pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping and murdering the Carl Mosser family of Atwood, Ill. Cook's plea for mercy came through his court-appointed attorneys, Gomer Smith sr. and John Connolly jr., when they brought their client before Federal Judge Stephens S. Chandler. They asked that his trail "not be a Roman holiday where prisoners were thrown to the lions for the enjoyment of the populace."
