Letter from Raoul A. Cortez, President General of LULAC, to John J. Herrera, LULAC Regional Governor, dated August 12,1948. This is a reply to John Herrera's letter of August 6, 1948. President General Cortez encourages Herrera to call together the Houston area councils for a local convention, with a larger convention possibly to be held later. President General Cortez also replies to suggestions made in the earlier letter and invites Herrera to join in a visit to the LULAC Council Number 132 in El Paso, Texas.

Carbon copy of a letter from John J. Herrera, LULAC Regional Governor, to Raul Perez, President of LULAC Council of Kingsville, Texas, dated January 12, 1949. This letter is in answer to Perez's inquiry about topics to be discussed at the Texas Regional Convention to be held in Houston, Texas, on January 29 and 30, 1949. Topics are to include: the fifty-cent a month member assessment; and ways and means to advise the Legislature what action should be taken against illegal transportation and hiring of braceros in Texas. Also to be discussed was a proposed trip of LULACs to see President Truman about this matter and civil rights legislation.

Castañeda has already sent his application for a visa to the Consulates of Brazil and Argentina. On the letter handwritten in pencil: "Hurry, a favor to consider. 8th floor, P5111, New Orleans...Consul of Chile"

Letter from Lyndon B. Johnson reflecting on his history with Herrera from the past year. Johnson mentions that the Senate had just passed the Atlantic Pact and were beginning hearings on the arms program, and he asks for any suggestions Herrera might have for him. The letter is typed on United States Senate Committee on Armed Services letterhead.

This is request to use Judge McGee's court room in the Civil Courts Building for the Junior LULAC monthly meeting. Herrera indicates that previously they had met at Hennessey Park but membership was dwindling because it was not a safe location.
