Revill states that Hughes was not working when he saw the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald on television and he immediately reported to work at the Times Herald City Desk for assignment. He was instructed to interview police officers and others who were present at the shooting. Hughes stated that he interviewed Sergeant P. T. Dean, who said that Jack Ruby had come from the Main Street entrance ramp, although he did not see him. Hughes also interviewed Patrolman R. E. Vaughn who stated that Ruby apparently gained access to the City Hall basement through the ramp, although he did not see him pass by his assignment.
