Caption: "The highway curve that lived up to its deadly name for the first time early Saturday morning will remain a threat to motorists for at least two more years. The curve is in the 3200 block of I.H. 240 (SW 74). Eventually it is to become an interchange between I.H. 240 and Oklahoma City's West Bypass. Residents living around the interchange have been calling it "dead man's curve." A car skidded off the curve early Saturday morning and two of the four occupants were killed, the first fatalities recorded since the roads were opened. Killed were Cecil Lewis Shattuck and his sister, Mrs. Edna S. Mattox, both of Bristow. they were both passengers in the auto driven by Mrs. mattox's husband Fred, 63. Mattox and the fourth occupant, a granddaughter, Sharon Louis Skaggs, 2 1/2, were injured. No plans have been drawn and the right away has not been purchased for the West Bypass route north to SW44, Frank D. Lyons, state highway director, said Saturday."
