Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "A change of administration at the statehouse is always a time of eager anticipation and great speculation. This is particulary true when the power of state government passes from one party to another. Oklahoma is going through that change this month as David Hall moves into the office of chief executive and Democrates also take over all secondery offices, ending eight years of Republican rule. If past experience is any guide, the big shakeup will not measure up to expectations. State government has grown so big and complex, it seems to coast along in about the same pattern, regardless of who sits in the driver's seat."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "A long, lonely road came to an end Monday for David Hall, but at the end he found 7,000 sooners cheering. Counting Hall's unsuccessful attempt in the 1966 primary, it took him four elections, a recount and six weeks of waiting to realize his goal. But Monday, Hall sat in the governor's chair. At Hall's inaugruation, his smile and that of his wife, Jo, indicated they believe the two primaries, the run-off and the general election - not to mention four years in between - were well worth the effort......With Hall on his big day were all but one of the state's living former governors. Only Roy J. Turner, suffering from influenza, was absent. Also there was Carl Albert, speaker-designate of the U. S. House of Representatives, who will take over the nation's second most powerful office next week; U.S. Sens. Bellmon and Fred R. Harris; Congressmen Tom Steed and Ed Edmondson and most of the state's elected officials. Tuesday, the festivities will be over, and the Hall Administration will begin the day-to-day routine of governing Oklahoma. The "lonely" may be gone, but the road ahead is still long."

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Gov. Hall did not dance all night, like the song says, at his inaugural ball. There wasn't room. His inaugural ball at Shephard Mall drew a crowd which was estimated by Chief Byron Hollander and Fire Marshall E. L. Koch at 35,000. By 8:45 p.m., uniformed highway patrolmen and National Guardsmen had sealed off the mall temporarily, turning back people with inviatations in hand. Even caught outside was Patrick Williams, one of the new governor's law partners amd master of ceremonies at the inauguration earlier Monday.........People started showing up as early as 6 p.m. and, by 8 p.m. the mall was pretty well packed. A store at the north end of the mall closed and locked its doors at 8:45 p.m., 15 minutes before its regular closing time. Those who planned the ball called it a success, others called it a disaster. "This is ridiculous," one woman said, "I've been to two inaugral balls in Washington, and at least you could get in and have a place to sit down." One line of chairs was set along easch side of the (continued on page 2, col. 5)"
