He wrote of temperance meetings that were being held in what he considered lawless parts of the country. Pledges were being signed to abstain from alcohol and he told his wife that future temperance meetings were being planned.

Dallas County probate record regarding the case of Thomas, D.L. & M.E. (Minors) and L.M. Martin (Executor or Guardian). This case contained 410 pages of documents. Mr. L.M.Martin, the guardian of the two minor children, was a fantastic record keeper. His records note the establishments that were located in downtown Dallas in the mid 1880's when downtown Dallas was a thriving, busy, and bustling center in the middle of the black-land prairie.

Also, Pitts and his wife will visit Brenham next Saturday, and on Sunday Pitts will preach. He informs Giddings that Louise and Annie are doing well at Chappell Hill Female College and suggests that Annie take up music lessons.
