A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, from Tom Connally, United States Senate, dated October 9, 1940. Connally acknowledges his receipt of the letter and enclosure from Carswell in which Carswell advises that his committee invited Chief Justice Hughes to speak at the inauguration of Dr. William Richardson White as President of Hardin-Simmons University. Connally advises that he will urge Hughes to accept the invitation and expresses his appreciation for the invitation from Carswell to attend the Armistice Day services, declines to make any definite engagements due to the pressure of his public duties but that he will advise if later he finds that he can attend.
