Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "It was a great day Saturday for dedicating highways, making speeches and planting trees. All three occurred and when it was all over the Stanley Draper Expressway across downtown Oklahoma City was officially opened to traffic. The morning was crisp and so were bacon and the speeches. More than 300 friends of Draper, the untiring executive vice president of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, rolled out of bed early to attend a breakfast prior to the dedication ceremony at SW 2 and Robinson. Mayor Shirk set the pace, and the feeling of the breakfast, when he said, "Stanley Draper is the chamber of commerce. He sees one dream come true and immediately starts on another." (photo tag: Gov. Bellmon, back to camera, speaks to those gathered for ceremony at draper Expressway Saturday.)"

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "An unpleasant era ended in Oklahoma City Saturday as ceremonies marked the city's role in a new era. Those who didn't actively participate in the old era didn't miss it. For thousands of other persons, its demise should bring bring a loud, "Good riddance." As of 11:03 a.m. Saturday, trains no longer will necessarily hold up all motorists at the Reno and Byers feed-off of I.H. 35 and I.H. 40. The passing of this memorable though unloved situation should bring tears. Now, the Draper Expressway will provide a sky ride over the railroad tracks for 1.77 miles. Eventually, it will take motorists clear to Yukon as I. H. 40. It was a teeth-chattering 29 degrees at dedication eremonies Saturday morning, but chances were Stanley Draper didn't notice that at all. A mayor, a governor, a lot of old cars, a couple of fire trucks, a high school band and several hundred citizens turned out for the event held at the site of a dedicatory maker in a grassy plaza at S Robinson, just south of the elevated expressway. (photo tag: Graceful maker stands on Draper Expressway dedication site.)"

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "More Of A Pleasure Drive than a super-highway was the Draper Expressway Sunday afternoon. Cars Moving at a leisurley pace on the elevated expressway backed up more than seven blocks as the three lanes of traffic that entered the crosstown from the east tried to squeeze into one lane to exit on the west end. The highway patrol and city police said the congestion at the one-lane exit should not be much of a problem during rush hours Monday since motorists will be using both the west end and the exit on S Robinson. (T-2-4-72) If the Oklahoma City public works department had a dollar for each time some motorist couldn't find Classen after exiting at that sign, it could extend the boulevard to Red River. Trouble is nobody thought it would take so long to build three more blocks of Classen when I-40 opened in 1965...Pat Brian, bond engineer, said the 1972 bond package to be sold July 1 will include the Classeb extension. After that, Brian estimates it will be Oct. 15 before all details are finished and the city has the money in hand to hire …
