Carswell requests that the greeting card carry a message expressing his "great good fortune to have such wonderful young friends" and is conveying his appreciation of that friendship with a subscription of IDEALS hoping they will enjoy the contents. He quotes Carl Schurz, "Ideals are like the stars - we never reach them, but like the mariners of the sea, we chart our course by them."
