Using Curriculum Mapping to Understand Information Literacy in Political Science Curricula

Article presenting a curriculum mapping study of noncore course offerings in political science curricula by an early-career librarian. It combines syllabi study and curriculum mapping methods to analyze the language of student learning objectives (SLOs) from course syllabi and to integrate SLOs with threshold concepts from the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and the AAC&U Information Literacy VALUE Rubric. The methods produce two sample sets: one of core concept representation and the other of additional observances for syllabi improvements. Results analyze the frequency and percentage distributions of threshold concepts in SLOs. The author outlines strategies for engaging faculty in information literacy and suggests how librarians and faculty might inform information literacy teaching in the department.

An investigation of steric influence on the reactivity of FeV(O)(OH) tautomers in stereospecific C–H hydroxylation (open access)

An investigation of steric influence on the reactivity of FeV(O)(OH) tautomers in stereospecific C–H hydroxylation

Article describes how two new tetradentate N4 ligands (LN4), LN4 = Me2,Me2PyzTACN (1-(2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)ethyl)-4,7-dimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) and Me2,MeImTACN (1-((1-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl)-4,7-dimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) have been synthesized and their corresponding Fe(II) complexes [FeII(Me2,Me2PyzTACN)(CF3SO3)2], 1Pz, and [FeII(Me2,MeImTACN)(CF3SO3)2], 1Im, have been prepared and characterized. Based on these labelling studies, the steric influence exerted by each of the ligands towards the relative reactivity of the oxo ligands of the corresponding pair of Fe(V)(O)(OH) tautomers can be derived.

Status of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Archives (open access)

Status of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Archives

This paper explores the role of Historically Black College and University (HBCU) archives in preserving the history and cultural heritage of these institutions and investigates the factors that contribute to the disparities observed in the availability of digital collections and the staffing of archivists across HBCUs in the United States. Data was collected from 102 HBCU websites and the National Center for Education Statistics, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and ordinary linear regression. The findings revealed notable disparities in the staffing of archivists and the presence of digital archive collections, with geography, enrollment, and endowment emerging as potentially significant factors. The study highlights the importance of understanding key factors in the availability of digital archive collections and the staffing of archivists at HBCUs.

Tribocatalytically-active nickel/cobalt phosphorous films for universal protection in a hydrocarbon-rich environment (open access)

Tribocatalytically-active nickel/cobalt phosphorous films for universal protection in a hydrocarbon-rich environment

Article describes how high-contact stresses generated at the sliding interfaces during their relative movement provide a unique combination of local heating and shear- and load-induced compression conditions. The authors of the article employ the electrodeposition process to design a coating composed of a hard cobalt-phosphorous matrix with the inclusion of tribocatalytically-active nickel clusters.

Teacher-Principal Ethnoracial Matching, Geography, and Novice Teacher Career Outcomes (open access)

Teacher-Principal Ethnoracial Matching, Geography, and Novice Teacher Career Outcomes

Article describes how, nationally, many school districts are facing a teacher workforce sustainability crisis, and job retention for novice teachers of color is a key area of focus for educational leaders and policymakers. In this study, the authors draw on nine years of administrative data from Texas K-12 public schools to better understand how teacher-principal ethnoracial matching is associated with patterns of teacher retention and system-exit.

Nanotopographical Cues Tune the Therapeutic Potential of Extracellular Vesicles for the Treatment of Aged Skeletal Muscle Injuries (open access)

Nanotopographical Cues Tune the Therapeutic Potential of Extracellular Vesicles for the Treatment of Aged Skeletal Muscle Injuries

Article describes how skeletal muscle regeneration relies on the tightly temporally regulated lineage progression of muscle stem/progenitor cells (MPCs) from activation to proliferation and finally, differentiation. The authors developed an engineering strategy to tune the therapeutic potential of EVs using nanotopographical cues.

Duals of Tirilman spaces have unique subsymmetric basic sequences (open access)

Duals of Tirilman spaces have unique subsymmetric basic sequences

Article describes how the Tirilman spaces were introduced by Casazza and Shura as variations of the spaces constructed by Tzafriri. We prove that all subsymmetric basic sequences in the dual space are equivalent to its canonical subsymmetic but not symmetric basis.
