The presentation made a positive impact on the faculty and the people present in attendance and have been motivation to act upon the inclusion of the program into their curriculum. McIntyre formally invites NTIEVA back to El Paso and present to the art specialists in the El Paso district and is looking forward to working with Davis and NTIEVA. Rodriguez is a professor at Granada University, working on her Ph.D. on Art Education and is interested in DBAE, discipline-based art education. Having contacted the Getty Center for more information they re-addressed her to the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. Rodriguez hopes that Davis will be able to send her some information regarding the teacher training program and other subjects in its relation, along with the inquiry about outside observers to attend meetings / seminars if possible.

Melinda Mayer, of Pennsylvania State University and Melody Milbrandt, of Florida State University have been awarded the fellowships in the field of visual arts education by the Getty Center, the awards will provide the scholars $12,500 in grant money to support their research. The press release goes into further details about what each student will be researching.

Photocopy of a letter from Jim Surratt, Superintendent Plano ISD, to Bill McCarter and Jack Davis, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. In regards to Plano's commitment as a full partner in the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts and their implementation of full two-week summer institute in the summer of 1995. Attached to the letter are stipend worksheets for the current income of the faculty to be involved with the program.

In regards to the spring of 1995 progress report Davis and McCarter had sent Rosenberg about their activities and achievements for NTIEVA. Rosenberg is interested to hear that Bill McCarter plans to retires from NTIEVA after the summer of 1997 and commends both of them for their leadership they have brought to NTIEVA. Rosenberg requests that they address certain issues in their next report due October 1, 1995 or to send them separately so that she may review them.

Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, project coordinator of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Augustus Whitted, Director of Elementary Education, in regards to Burton Hill Elementary School submitting a proposal for an Extended Fine Arts Program. The North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts supports and endorses the proposal, giving thoughtful consideration for its funding. Reynolds explains in the letter that NTIEVA is a program devoted to research and development of discipline-based art education (DBAE), and that Fort Worth ISD and Burton Hill has been a model for the development of the strategies implemented from the program. NTIEVA will continue to support the educational initiative taking place at Burton Hill.

Thanking them for their invitation for Muhlert to join the advisory committee of the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. Muhlert writes that she will be happy to do so and participate in the activities as time allows.

Rosenberg requests that Berry send her a memo with the information from her focus group about marketing for the national specialty programs. Rosenberg also requests details about the National Center being a separate entity from NTIEVA, that Berry proposed.

Woolery writes that the Dallas Public Schools will be unable to continue their participation with NTIEVA, due to budgeting and time constraints. Woolery finishes the letter by saying the fine arts staff have been positive about the impact the program has had on their schools, and hopes Davis and McCarter will continue to let them know of opportunities in the future regarding NTIEVA and the Getty Foundation. Included at the end of the letter is a stipend worksheet for the faculty involved with NTIEVA based on current salaries.

In regards to Davis having completed the proposal for the Center for Study of Arts in Education at NTSU. Davis writes that the strong leadership of the arts education faculties at NTSU and the establishment of the Center will put them in a position to effect the quantity of the arts education programs they hope to implement. Davis ends the letter hoping that O'Donnell with review his proposal and get together to discuss any further ideas.
