A letter report issued by the Government Accountability Office with an abstract that begins "The Form 5500 is the primary source of information for both the federal government and the private sector regarding the operation, funding, assets, and investments of private pension and other employee benefit plans. Currently, the Department of Labor (Labor) requires about 3 years to provide certain usable Form 5500 information to the public, leading to complaints that the information is not timely. We have prepared this report under the Comptroller General's authority, and it is intended to assist Congress in improving the timeliness and content of Form 5500 information. This report is addressed to the congressional committees of jurisdiction. It examines: (1) the information reported on the form and how it is used, (2) factors that affect the timeliness of Form 5500 information, and (3) issues affecting the content of the form."

Correspondence issued by the Government Accountability Office with an abstract that begins "The enactment of the Public Safety Partnership and Community Policing Act of 1994, Title 1 of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (VCCLEA), authorized appropriations of $8.8 billion to advance the practice of community policing as an effective strategy in communities' efforts to improve public safety. It had as a goal adding 100,000 new police officers nationwide. The Attorney General created the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) to administer community policing grants. VCCLEA was enacted shortly after a period of increasing violent crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. In December 1993, the Department of Justice (DOJ) began making community policing grants to state and local law enforcement agencies. By 2001, COPS grants totaling $7.3 billion in obligations had been made to state and local law enforcement agencies, and these agencies had expended about $5 billion of these obligated amounts. The COPS grant expenditures amounted to about 1 percent of total local law enforcement expenditures from 1994 through 2001. Correspondence issued by the Government Accountability Office with an abstract that begins "In 2004, the Department of Labor (Labor) updated the rule that determines who is entitled to overtime pay of "time and a half" when they work more than 40 hours a week. As part of the rule-making process, Labor was required to estimate the impact of the updated overtime rule and publish the results in the Federal Register. Labor contracted with the CONSAD Research Corporation (CONSAD) to assist the agency in studying the impact of both the proposed and final overtime rule. Because of Congress' interest in these studies and how they were conducted, we agreed to identify: (1) CONSAD's contractual responsibilities in assisting Labor with estimating the impact of the updated overtime rule on workers and (2) CONSAD's actions in carrying out these contractual responsibilities. To determine CONSAD's responsibilities, we obtained and analyzed two contracts between Labor and CONSAD. The first contract covered CONSAD's responsibilities related to Labor's impact study for the proposed overtime rule, while the second contract covered CONSAD's responsibilities related to Labor's impact study for the final overtime rule."

During the RHIC run-4 polarized proton operation, the intensity and polarization profiles were measured by scanning the Coulomb-nuclear interference (CNI) polarimeter targets across the beam. The scans reported here were all performed on flattop at beam momenta {approx}100 GeV/c, and all but one was a vertical scan, since several of the vertical polarimeter targets had broken by the time of the measurements. This note summarizes some analyses of these profiles. Wall current monitor data are compared to these results for one beam and fill.

CH2M HILL is producing risk/performance assessments to support the closure of single-shell tanks at the DOE's Hanford Site. As part of this effort, staff at PNNL were asked to develop release models for contaminants of concern that are present in residual sludge remaining in tank 241-C-106 (C-106) after final retrieval of waste from the tank. This report provides the information developed by PNNL.
