A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Don Wooten, H. O. Wooten Grocer Company, Abilene, Texas, dated January 3, 1958. Wooten expresses his appreciation for the note from Carswell, that it added appreciably to the Christmas spirit and advises that he sent a copy of Carswell's note to his Mother.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas from Glenn L. Archer, Executive Director, Americans United for separation of church and state, dated October 3, 1972. Archer expresses his appreciation for the personal note from Carswell and concurs that they have kindred spirits. He advises that he thinks that Carswell is a "mighty young 85", notes that he appreciates the load that Carswell is carrying regarding his wife and offers to send the magazine for old times' sake. Archer expresses his concern that the job regarding separation of church and state gets bigger all the time and asks that Carswell breath a little extra of that good Texas air for him and tells of his dream to be back in Kansas "where my grandfather took a homestead, where a man lived near the sky and God was all around you". The reverse side includes printed letterhead with a listing of names and offices held in the organization of Americans United for separation of church and state.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Ethel and Glyn Quade, Sagerton, Texas, dated August 3, 1970. Quade expresses their disappointment that they missed Carswell when he drove out there. She expresses their appreciation for the azaleas and Ideals books, asks after Mrs. Carswell and invites him to drive out on Friday for an evening meal noting that Lyndell will be home that evening.

A letter written to Mr. Carswell from Mrs. J. H. McLaughlin, Sweetwater, Texas, dated March 3, 1944. McLaughlin expresses her appreciation for Carswell's answer to her letter "but most of all for contacting John". She advises that she had a letter from John in which he said he had talked with Carswell and then explains why John needed to talk with a man of experience in order to "analyze matters" with him and that Carswell will never know how she appreciates this kindness.

A Western Union telegram sent to T. N. Carswell, San Antonio, Texas, from Tom Connally, Washington, D. C. via Abilene Texas, dated March 3, 1943. Connally replies to a telegram from Carswell and advises that a strike bill is pending and that he is doing all he can. The reverse side includes stamp - 1943 MAR 4 AM 9 54--A R SAN ANTONIO, TEX.

A letter addressed to Honorable Roane Waring, Memphis, Tennessee, from T. N. Carswell, Delegate 17th District, dated September 3, 1941. Carswell advises Waring that he was privileged to hear and meet him at Fort Worth, of receipt of the brochure from the Department of Tennessee announcing his candidacy for National Commander and confirms that he is "for him" and will do all he can to that end as a delegate from Texas.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Commander Parramore Post No. 57, Abilene, Texas, from Sam Russell, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated February 3, 1941. Russell acknowledges his receipt of the letter from Carswell dated February 1 then explains how he was trying to get the drill books but when unable to do so he wrote to Carswell to give him the information.

A letter written to the State Highway Commission of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, from W. R. Ely, Member Texas Highway Commission, Abilene, dated November 3, 1927. Letter of introduction for Mr. T. N. Carswell of Abilene, Texas as a representative of the various towns touched by Highway No. 4 in Texas and an advisement that he has the endorsement of the Texas Highway Commission.

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Martin Dies, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated September 3, 1956. Dies replies to Carswell's request that Dies continue serving as a Representative by advising him that after serving 18 years in Congress he feels justified in asking for this promotion and sincerely hopes that Carswell can see his way clear to support him.

A form letter from George Mahon, dated May 3, 1951. Mahon discourses on the MacArthur controversy and advises that Acheson should have resigned many months ago. He speaks of his concern for the country stating that he hopes they can get their feet on the ground as a nation and unify efforts toward building up the national defense program and towards preventing World War III. Mahon affirms his need for the prayers and advice of the people during these trying days. P. S. "As to our spending policies, we must avoid exhausting ourselves."

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Omar Burleson, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., dated February 3, 1950. Burleson writes relative to questions Carswell mentioned in the poll submitted by Burleson. He explains his vote on labor issues involving the Wood Amendment, the Taft-Hartley Law and the Wagner Act citing a difference of opinion and impression by Houston Harte, Editor of The San Angelo Standard-Times. Burleson expresses his hope to be able to discuss the issues more fully with Carswell.

A letter addressed to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from J. E. McDonald, Commissioner of Agriculture, Austin 14, Texas, dated July 3, 1946. McDonald expresses his appreciation for the letter from Carswell of June 29 pledging continued support to McDonald's candidacy and administration. "If I cannot be elected on my own merits, I certainly should not be elected on my opponent's demerits."

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from Mrs. Jewel McLeod, Fort Worth, Texas, dated June 3, 1941. McLeod requests that Carswell provide to Mr. King a letter of recommendation of her work.

A letter written to Mr. C. M. King, Business Manager, Southwestern Baptist Teological Seminary, Seminary Hill, Texas, from (Mrs.) Jewel McLeod, Fort Worth, Texas, dated June 3, 1941. McLeod expresses her interest for employment in the office of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. McLeod notes that in December of 1926, she was offered a place with the Abilene Chamber of Commerce under the able direction of Mr. T. N. Carswell and resigned that place in October, 1935.

Holcombe advises Carswell that Mr. Joe W. Kemble is out of the City, but Anne Howell of the Chamber of Commerce has made the room reservation [for the Democratic Convention, Amarillo, Texas].

A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas, from R. D. Hill, Little Rock, Arkansas, dated February 3, 1950. Hill requests that Carswell hold the letter for instructions to be utilizied later and suggests he obtain Cashier's Checks. Hill identifies "his man" in Albuquerque as Elmer C. Sproul, describes Sproul's background and gives his approval of Sproul. The reverse side includes a handwritten postscript by Hill informing Carswell that he learned that the tubing which Dalton wrote about is of smaller diameter than the pipe presently used by the firm thus it would not fit the units they are making.

A letter written to Mr. R. W. Haynie, Attorney at Law, Abilene, Texas, from Holman Jenkens, Attorney At Law, Dallas, Texas, dated May 3, 1949. T. N. Carswell vs P. H. Diffenbaugh. Jenkens expresses his appreciation to Haynie for forwarding this matter to him noting they will be able to find out whether or not Mr. Diffenbaugh has anything. Typewritten at the bottom of the page is correspondence from Holman Jenkens, Dallas, Texas to Mr. Carswell--Mr. T. N. Carswell, Abilene, Texas. Jenkens expresses his appreciation to Carswell for having this matter referred to him.

Johnson expresses his appreciation for the confidence reposed in him assuring Carswell that things will begin to happen in the Electric Power & Light and the Puget Sound "situation".

Carswell commends James for his stand on the Texarkana Hospital proposal advising of his own opposition to it as a cooperating Baptist. He advises of his opposition to government financing and suggests that any Baptist churches without representation at the Convention send a resolution or letter to make their position known.

A form letter addressed to Buddies--TO ALL LEGIONNAIRES, DEPARTMENT OF TEXAS, from Sam D. Forman, Jr., Department Commander, The American Legion, Department of Texas, Houston, Texas, dated August 3, 1944. Forman reminds the Legionnaires of the housing conditions and that things are abnormal in Fort Worth, the same as in any other city in the Nation due to the war effort, and to make all reservations with Mr. Herbert Joseph, Chairman of the Housing Committee.
