LIL8/V2: a list interpretive language for the MCS-8 microcomputer (open access)

LIL8/V2: a list interpretive language for the MCS-8 microcomputer

A list interpretive language designed for microcomputer-based programmable control systems is described. The purpose of this project was to create an easily understood method for scientific personnel (with minimal programming background) to program an MCS-8 microcomputer-controlled chemistry system, via teletype. The intent is for the language to compete in simplicity of understanding with a rotating cam programmer. Also needed was an interrupt capability, a special instruction set, and the ability to read and punch paper tapes of the user's programs. In effect, this program simulates a different computer architecture resulting in an entirely new instruction set, I/0, and interrupt capability. At present there are twenty-one instructions, the special interrupt option, and the ability to process sublists. New users' instructions are very easily added.

Analysis of the fusion-effectiveness of active and passive pulse-stackers (open access)

Analysis of the fusion-effectiveness of active and passive pulse-stackers

The laser fusion effectiveness of various active and passive pulse-stacking schemes is investigated. Factors considered include efficiency, achievable rise-times, variety in output pulse shapes, simplicity of construction and operation, and compatibility with existing and proposed fusion laser systems. During the research phase of laser-fusion development a particular class of active pulse-stackers should be superior, although a passive system, such as the KMSF pulse-stacker, should be superior for use in a fusion reactor system.

Monte Carlo model for a thick target T(D,n)/sup 4/ He neutron source (open access)

Monte Carlo model for a thick target T(D,n)/sup 4/ He neutron source

A brief description is given of a calculational model developed to simulate a T(D,n)/sup 4/ He neutron source which is anisotropic in energy and intensity. The model also provides a means for including the time dependency of the neutron source. Although the model has been applied specifically to the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory ICT accelerator, the technique is general and can be applied to any similar neutron source.
