The back of the photograph proclaims, "This field produced 6 ½ bushels of oats per acre in 1950. The oats had been overseeded with sericea lespedeza. The sericea was fertilized with 650 lbs. per acre of rock phosphate which was drilled into the soil. In 1962 the sericea was plowed up, 2 ½ tons of lime and 100 lbs. of 10-20-10 fertilizer per acre was applied and Greenfield Bermuda was planted. That fall the Bermuda was overseeded with vetch, rye and fescue and 125 lbs. of 10-20-10 fertilizer was applied. No fertilizer has been applied since that time. Estimated forage yield was 4 tons per acre in 1966."
