Preliminary Report of the Results of Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Materials in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming (open access)

Preliminary Report of the Results of Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Materials in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming

From introduction: During three months of the summer of 1952, a geologic and radiometric reconnaissance examination for uraniferous materials in the peripheral parts of the Powder River structural basin in northeastern Wyoming (fig. 1) was made by the Survey on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission. The purpose was to find, describe, locate, and sample deposits of uraniferous or radioactive materials other than those in the central part of the Powder River Basin in the general vicinity of the Pumpkin Buttes.

[Wyoming Uranium Evaluation] Volume 1: A Summary of the Geology and Uranium Potential of Precambrian Conglomerates in Southeastern Wyoming (open access)

[Wyoming Uranium Evaluation] Volume 1: A Summary of the Geology and Uranium Potential of Precambrian Conglomerates in Southeastern Wyoming

From deposit: Since 1975 a cooperative effort between the United States Department of Energy, United States Geological Survey, Geological Survey of Wyoming, the Geology Department, University of Wyoming, and various industry groups has resulted in the discovery of a series of uraniumthorium-and gold-bearing conglomerates in Late Archean and Early Proterozoic metasedimentary rocks of southern Wyoming. The mineral deposits were found by applying the time and strata bound model for the origin of uranium-bearing quartz-pebble conglomerates to favorable rock types within a geologic terrane known from prior regional mapping.

[Wyoming Uranium Evaluation] Volume 2: Drill-Hole Data, Drill-Site Geology, and Geochemical Data from the Study of Precambrian Uraniferous Conglomerates of the Medicine Bow Mountains and the Sierra Madre of Southeastern Wyoming (open access)

[Wyoming Uranium Evaluation] Volume 2: Drill-Hole Data, Drill-Site Geology, and Geochemical Data from the Study of Precambrian Uraniferous Conglomerates of the Medicine Bow Mountains and the Sierra Madre of Southeastern Wyoming

From introduction: This volume is presented as a companion to Volume I: The Geology and Uranium Potential of Precambrian Conglomerates in the Medicine Bow Mountains and Sierra Madre of southeastern Wyoming; and to Volume 3: Uranium Assessment for Precambrian Pebble Conglomerates in Southeastern Wyoming. In Volume 1, we summarized the geologic setting and geologic and geochemical characteristics of uranium-bearing conglomerates in Precambrian metasedimentary rocks of southeastern Wyoming. Volume 3 is a geostatistical resource estimate of U and Th in quartz-pebble conglomerates. This volume contains supporting geochemical data, lithologic logs from 48 drill holes in Precambrian rocks of the Medicine Bow Mountains and Sierra Madre, and drill site geologic maps and cross-sections from most of the holes.

Digital Model to Predict Effects of Pumping from the Arikaree Aquifer in the Dwyer Area, Southeastern Wyoming (open access)

Digital Model to Predict Effects of Pumping from the Arikaree Aquifer in the Dwyer Area, Southeastern Wyoming

Abstract: ^ digital computer model was used to model an unconfined sandstone aquifer (Arikaree aquifer) in about 340 square miles (880 square kilometers) in southeastern Wyoming. The model was calibrated by comparing observed and calculated changes in the potentiometric surface and leakage from the aquifer along streams during water year 1974. The comparison was fairly good for changes in the potentiometric surface and was good for leakage. The calibrated model was used to predict changes in the potentiometric surface and leakage through water year 1979, assuming no new ground-water development after 1974 and normal recharge to the aquifer. Water-level declines of as much as 14 feet (4.3 meters) were predicted, but much of the area would be relatively unaffected. The total predicted decrease in leakage between water years 1974 and 1979 was about 500 acre-feet (0.6 cubic hectometer) per year; the greatest decrease was predicted along streams closest to areas of pumpage.

Location of uranium occurrences in southcentral Wyoming and northwestern Colorado (open access)

Location of uranium occurrences in southcentral Wyoming and northwestern Colorado

"The principal uranium deposits in southcentral Wyoming and north-western Colorado are located in or at the margins of broad Tertiary basins. Interesting and possibly commercially significant occurrences are found in other Tertiary and older rocks at widely separated locations within this region. The six maps accompanying this report give the location, name, and ownership of the mines and occurrences from which samples assaying greater than 0.10% U3O8 have been collected. Claim names, location, and ownership are also given for occurrences outside the map areas."
