Low-Flow Characteristics of Wisconsin Streams at Sewage-Treatment Plants (open access)

Low-Flow Characteristics of Wisconsin Streams at Sewage-Treatment Plants

Abstract: Low-flow characteristics of Wisconsin streams at 415 sewage-treatment plants are presented in this report. The low-flow characteristics presented are the annual minimum 7-day mean flow that occurs on the average of once in 2 years and the annual minimum 7-day mean flow that occurs on the average of once in 10 years. The low-flow characteristics at most sewage-treatment plants were determined by correlating baseflow measurements at the sewage-treatment plants to the concurrent daily mean flow at continuous-record gaging stations in the area. The accuracy determined by the standard error of estimate for the 10-year low flow ranged from 18 percent at continuous-record gaging stations to 70 percent when only three base-flow measurements were available. The standard error of 70 percent is larger than anticipated when the project was initiated. This was the result of extremely poor base-flow conditions during the 2-year data collection period. Additional base-flow conditions will be obtained during subsequent years which will improve the standard error somewhere between 29 and 45 percent.

Low-Flow Characteristics of Wisconsin Streams at Sewage-Treatment Plants and Industrial Plants (open access)

Low-Flow Characteristics of Wisconsin Streams at Sewage-Treatment Plants and Industrial Plants

From abstract: The purpose of this report is to present low-flow characteristics of Wisconsin streams at sewage-treatment and industrial plants. The low-flow characteristics are needed to implement water-quality standards for all surface waters of the State. Water-quality standards in Wisconsin are based on the annual minimum 7-day mean flow below which the flow will fall on the average of once in 10 years.

Monthly and Annual Water Budgets of Lake Wingra, Madison, Wisconsin, 1972-1977

From abstract: This report presents estimated annual and monthly water budgets for lake Wingra and the adjacent wetland area for January 1972 through September 1977. Annually, inputs from precipitation, surface runoff, and ground-water inflow are approximately equal (31, 34, and 35 percent, respectively). Outputs include outflow from the lake into Murphy Creek (70 percent), evotranspiration from the lake and wetland (26 percent), and ground-water outflow (4 percent).

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Eau Claire Quadrangle, Wisconsin and Minnesota (open access)

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Eau Claire Quadrangle, Wisconsin and Minnesota

Purpose and scope: The Eau Claire Quadrangle, Wisconsin and Minnesota, was evaluated to identify geologic units and delineate areas that exhibit characteristics favorable for the occurrence of uranium deposits. All geologic environments to a depth of 1500 m (5,000 ft) were evaluated by means of surface investigations and available subsurface data. Each environment was categorized as favorable, unfavorable, or unevaluated for uranium deposits based on recognition criteria contained in the study of significant uranium districts worldwide (Mickle and Mathews, eds., 1978). Evaluation of the Eau Claire Quadrangle was conducted by Golder Associates, Inc., under subcontract to Bendix Field Engineering Corporation (BFEC), for the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) program, managed by the Grand Junction Office of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The evaluation program began February 1, 1978, and ended February 1, 1980. Time spent by Golder personnel on literature search, field work, evaluation of data, and preparation of the final report totaled approximately 3.5 man-years.
