From introduction: This map shows the approximate altitude and configuration of the top of the Floridian aquifer...This map was prepared from geologic, geophysical, and drillers' logs on file with the Florida Bureau of Geology, U.S. Geological Survey, St. Johns River Water Management District, and from logs in published reports.

From introduction: The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, conducted a 1-year study to determine the effects of proposed deepening of the navigation channel on the surficial aquifer. A specific objective was to determine the degree of interconnection that exists current between the limestone adjacent to the river and the limestone in the riverbed that is to be dredged.

From abstract: "An aquifer test conducted in the Green Swamp area December 15-16, 1975 was designed to stress the uppermost part of the Flordian aquifer so that the leakage characteristics of the overlying confining bed could determined." This report includes those results.

Abstract: A flowing artesian well tapping the Floridan aquifer at Chekika Hammock State Park, Dade County, Florida, has been contaminating the overlying Biscayne aquifer with saline water since 1944. The contaminating plume extends approximately 7 miles downstream and southeast of the well and ranges in width from 1 to 2 miles. The area of contamination is approximately 12 square miles. The primary contaminating chemical constituents are chloride, sodium, and sulfate ions.

From introduction: The purpose of this report is to present irrigation water-use data for selected farms and to show how these data are used to estimate total water use for irrigating various crops in southwest Florida. The study area includes all of the Southwest Florida Water Management District and is about 10,000 miles in size (figure 1). The initial emphasis on benchmark farm locations was in Hillsborough, Manatee, and Polk Counties. As the program continues, new farms are being added in surrounding counties (figure 2).

From introduction: This report presents some borehole data-collection methods that can be used during the drilling of ROMP or other wells where data collection is a prime objective. Hydraulic, water-quality, and geophysical data-collection methods applicable to the hydrogeology of west-central Florida are emphasized.

Partial abstract: "This report reviews the scope of a research effort initiated in 1974 at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station with the objectives of (a) assessing the state of the art in geophysical cavity detection and delineation methodology and (b) developing new methods and improving or adapting old methods for application to cavity detection and delineation." This report discusses the geography, topography, site drilling tests, magnetic and microgravimetric surveys, and other information about the Medfor Cave site in Florida.

From purpose and scope: The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Lee County, conducted an investigation of the river in 1976-79. This investigation was planned to provide a broader base if information than heretofore available on the freshwater resources of the Caloosahatchee River basin, and in particular to provide information on water-quality conditions with emphasis on nutrients and algal growth. In addition to data collected during 1976-79, some earlier data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey were included to evaluate annual variation and trends.

From abstract: This report critically reviews historical precipitation data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and concludes that the while the data "may reflect local atmospheric quality conditions they likely do not define baseline conditions from a regional perspective." Abstract: Most public water supplies sampled in Florida meet the National Interim Primary and Proposed Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. This conclusion is based on a water quality reconnaissance of 131 raw and treated public supplies throughout the State during the period January through May 1979. In a few public supplies, primary drinking water regulation maximum contaminant levels were exceeded for mercury, turbidity, and gross alpha particle activity. Secondary drinking water regulations were also occasionally exceeded in some public supplies for such parameters as chloride, pH, color, dissolved solids, iron, and manganese. These parameters, however, are more related to the aesthetic quality of drinking water than to public health aspects.

This report presents survey results designed to find chloride concentrations in the Floridan aquifer, the main source of freshwater for southwest Florida. It contains maps, graphs, and tables.

From introduction: This study is part of a regional study of the Tertiary limestone aquifer system in the southeastern United States. The regional study encompasses all of Florida and extends into Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina--a total area of about 82,000 square miles.

From introduction: The study is part of a continuing cooperative program with the Southwest Florida Water Management District to define and describe characteristics of the aquifer. Aquifer characteristics determined from the study will provide data necessary for regulatory agencies to more efficiently manage water supply and development. The study area includes 10 counties and parts of 6 other counties within the District.

"Duval County in northeastern Florida and adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean contains approximately 840 square miles of which approximately 80 square miles are covered by water. The county is drained by three major rivers, the St. Johns, Nassau, and St. Marys. In addition, the coastal areas are drained by numerous small streams that empty into the Intracoastal Waterway or the Atlantic Ocean."
