This report describes results of a study to use stormwater data from four Miami, Florida catchménts to test applicability of deterministic modeling. It includes collected data, graphs, and maps.

Partial abstract: "This report reviews the scope of a research effort initiated in 1974 at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station with the objectives of (a) assessing the state of the art in geophysical cavity detection and delineation methodology and (b) developing new methods and improving or adapting old methods for application to cavity detection and delineation." This report discusses the geography, topography, site drilling tests, magnetic and microgravimetric surveys, and other information about the Medfor Cave site in Florida.

From purpose and scope: The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Lee County, conducted an investigation of the river in 1976-79. This investigation was planned to provide a broader base if information than heretofore available on the freshwater resources of the Caloosahatchee River basin, and in particular to provide information on water-quality conditions with emphasis on nutrients and algal growth. In addition to data collected during 1976-79, some earlier data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey were included to evaluate annual variation and trends.

From abstract: This report critically reviews historical precipitation data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and concludes that the while the data "may reflect local atmospheric quality conditions they likely do not define baseline conditions from a regional perspective." Abstract: Most public water supplies sampled in Florida meet the National Interim Primary and Proposed Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. This conclusion is based on a water quality reconnaissance of 131 raw and treated public supplies throughout the State during the period January through May 1979. In a few public supplies, primary drinking water regulation maximum contaminant levels were exceeded for mercury, turbidity, and gross alpha particle activity. Secondary drinking water regulations were also occasionally exceeded in some public supplies for such parameters as chloride, pH, color, dissolved solids, iron, and manganese. These parameters, however, are more related to the aesthetic quality of drinking water than to public health aspects.

Abstract: Virtually all treated public water supplies sampled in Florida meet the National Inter-Primary and Proposed Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. These findings are based on a water-quality reconnaissance of 129 treated public supplies throughout the State during the period November 1977 through February 1978. While primary drinking water regulation exceedences were infrequent , lead, selenium, and gross alpha radioactivity in a very few water supplies were above established maximum contaminant levels. Additionally , the secondary drinking water regulation parameters--dissolved solids, chloride, sulfate, iron, color, and pH--were occasionally detected in excess of the proposed Federal regulations. The secondary regulations, however, pertain mainly to the aesthetic quality of drinking water and not directly to public health aspects.

Preface: This report presents the results of condition surveys of taxiway 5 and the east N-S runway, McCoy Air Force Base, Orlando, Florida, made in accordance with addendum 3 to Instructions and Outline, "Condition Surveys for Existing Pavements."

This map depicts the approximate top of the rock that composes the Floridan aquifer. The contours represent the elevation of the top of the Floridan aquifer to mean sea level.

The cumulus cloud events of the Florida peninsula that were observed during a 19-day period of photoreconnaissance in August and September 1957 are described and illustrated. The associated meteorological and rainfall events are also described and the intercorrelations among the various observations are pointed out. The study findings revealed that the principal factors governing the cloud and rainfall situations of the different days were (1) the low-level advection of water vapor into the peninsula from the oceanic surroundings, (2) the wind transport, into the heated peninsula from the oceans during the daytime, of pre -existing cumulus populations containing appreciable liquid water, (3) the low-level convergence, and associated updraft motion, engendered by the synoptic situation and the peninsula sea breezes, and (4) the precipitable water content of the lower Florida air mass. Introduction: The present report summarizes pilot plant operations on the sulfuric acid digestion of -200 mesh leached zone and filtration of the digested slurry for the period May 5, 1952 through August 7, 1953.

From introduction: This study is part of a regional study of the Tertiary limestone aquifer system in the southeastern United States. The regional study encompasses all of Florida and extends into Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina--a total area of about 82,000 square miles.

From purpose and scope: The purpose of this report is to describe the development and calibration of a regional digital model of the Floridian aquifer in the Tampa Bay area. This model can be used to provide regional analyses of the effects of present and proposed pumping from the Floridian aquifer.

From abstract: The land-pebble phosphate district of Florida is a part of the Gulf Coastal Plain. The geologic formations cropping out in the district are the Miocene Hawthorn, Pliocene Bone Valley, and Pleistocene terrace sands. The Bone Valley formation consists of a lower strongly phosphatic unit and an upper less phosphatic unit. This paper is concerned principally with the lower unit, which contains the bulk of the minable phosphate deposits of the district.

From introduction: The study is part of a continuing cooperative program with the Southwest Florida Water Management District to define and describe characteristics of the aquifer. Aquifer characteristics determined from the study will provide data necessary for regulatory agencies to more efficiently manage water supply and development. The study area includes 10 counties and parts of 6 other counties within the District.

"Duval County in northeastern Florida and adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean contains approximately 840 square miles of which approximately 80 square miles are covered by water. In addition, the coastal areas are drained by numerous small streams that empty into the Intracoastal Waterway or the Atlantic Ocean."
