National Bureau of Standards
This is an article on the center for materials science, the National Bureau Standards (NBS). From ceramic tiles that shield the space shuttle to dental adhesives which replace metal fillings, new materials are revolutionizing technology and everyday life. NBS is at the forefront of materials technology with its broad-based research effort conducted by the Center for Materials Science (CMS). The Center provides measurements, data, standards, reference materials, and other technical information regarding materials to industry, government agencies, universities, and other scientific organizations. CMS research supports development of new and improved materials which can be used safely, efficiently, and economically.

Mineral Resources of the Bull Gulch Wilderness Study Area, Eagle County, Colorado
From summary: The USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) and the USBM (U.S. Bureau of Mines) studied 10,414 acres of the Bull Gulch (CO-070-430) Wilderness Study Area in Eagle County, Colorado. The area has identified, minable sand and gravel deposits; there are no other identified resources. It has moderate mineral resource potential for gypsum and anhydrite, and low potential for all metals, including uranium, coal, oil and gas, and geothermal resources.

Mineral Resources, Geology, and Geophysics of the Worthington Mountains Wilderness Study Area, Lincoln County, Nevada
Results of a survey of the Worthington Mountains Wilderness Study Area (NV-040-242) in Lincoln County, Nevada to determine mineral values, if any. The survey determined that metallic mineral (Cu, Pb, Zn, Au, Ag, W) resource potential within the study area is moderate, with level-B certainty, in the northernmost part, and it is low, with level-C certainty, in the remainder of the area. The report outlines the survey measurements and final results, with references and associated resource materials.

Mineral Resources of the White Rock Range Wilderness Study Area, Lincoln County, Nevada, and Beaver and Iron Counties, Utah
From summary: The White Rock Range Wilderness Study Area (NV-040-202/UT-040-216) is in Lincoln County, Nevada, and Beaver and Iron Counties, Utah, along the southern Nevada-Utah state line. Ursine, the town nearest to the study area, is about 15 mi (miles) southwest of the study area; the larger town of Pioche is about 30 mi southwest of the study area on Nevada Highway 322. A joint mineral resource appraisal of the 23,625 acre wilderness study area was completed in the summers of 1984 and 1985 by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Bureau of Mines. The White Rock Range Wilderness Study Area has no identified mineral resources and has low mineral resource potential for metals; the potential for oil and gas, coal, and geothermal energy is also low.

Hawaiian Monk Seal Reproduction and Injuries on Lianski Island, 1982
Abstract: data on the Hawaiian monk seal, Monachus schnauinslandi, including pup production, pupping locations, and injuries at Lisianski Island in 1982 are presented. Twenty-eight pups were born, of which 26 survived to weaning. Of the observed births, 75% occurred on the east side of the island. Average nursing period for 14 mother-pup pairs was 37.4 days. One exchange of pups was observed. Ten seals were injured while personnel were present on the island. Four of these injuries were attributable to attacks by adult male seals.
