Patent for a wire folded so that it firmly clamps "broom-corn, corn-shucks, mops, and feathers, or other material for brushes" (lines 10-11).

Patent for a combined flour and meal bin sifter meant for the kitchen. The amount of flour or meal put into the machine does not matter, and the sifter may be removed when desired. The sifted material is directed into a container, and the end of the chute can be closed when not in use.

Patent for a pin-and-link car-coupling that allows "cars to be readily coupled and uncoupled without going between them, and by which a link may be readily guided into the mouth of a draw-head without necessitating a person going between the cars" (lines 11-16). It also has a durable link lifting or guiding device.

Patent for "a new and useful composition of matter for concrete tombstones and a process for manufacturing the same whereby a perfectly white substantial rock will be produced that will be very durable, will not be liable to peeling, cracking, or turning dark, but will bleach out in the weather and become very solid, so as to form a permanent and substantial tombstone." Patent for an automatic churn, which is an improvement to a previous churn, no. 39,532. It has a two-part cabinet, the top part equipped with a hinged top, a crank shaft, ratchet-wheel, spring pawl, and a tubular square pocket at the end of the crank-shaft. The square pocket is where one can attach a handle to operate the churn. The lower half of the cabinet opens on the side and contains the container, dasher-rod, and churn-dashers.

Patent for a churn with a "perforated dasher and a hollow or tubular dasher-shaft, through which the air passes into the churn-cylinder during the process of churning" (lines 14-17). The churn has a foot-rest and a false-bottom, and is meant to improve on simple and inexpensive churns.

Patent for a door-bell joined with a tray or card-receiver, which is installed in a door. "When pulled out it will bring said tray outside the door to receive a card, letter, or package or any mail-matter, and when released will carry it inside the door again" (lines 11-15). The bell goes off when the tray, which has a toothed edge that engages the bell-hammer, is released.

Patent for a machine that cleans barrels. It has "barrel-supporting rollers to rotate the barrel in contact with brushes" (lines 13-15), which are more durable than rollers made from rubber tires. The rollers also each have an inner portion, a detachable annular exterior, and an elastic ring around the outside. Brushes are attached on opposite sides of the barrel, held up by a frame.

Patent for an improvement on car-couplers, "especially to the class of hook-and-catch couplers in which the sides of the jaws of the coupler securely hold a link between the same by means of a downwardly-extending hook, the sides of the upper jaw carrying the said hook extending down over the sides of the under jaw, thus protecting the jaws from a lateral jar or pressure, the lower jaw being provided with a series of recesses at different angles, which are designed to receive the end of the link when held in different positions" (lines 16-27). The car-coupler also has a gravity member.

Patent for an autographic register meant "to provide improved means for guiding, printing, cutting, and filling a record-bill and discharging original and duplicate bills" (lines 9-12). The printing and feeding mechanisms operate independently, bills may be any desired length, and checks may be numbered successively and dated.

Patent for a cotton gin that removes lint-cotton from the saws using an air-suction mechanism instead of a brush, which pose a fire hazard and can impair the gin's effectiveness. An air-blast mechanism is also an ineffective method of cleaning lint-cotton from the saws. The air-suction mechanism sucks "the lint-cotton directly from the rear portions of the saw-teeth independently of and without a brush, and an apparatus for preventing the withdrawn lint-cotton from passing into and through the air-suction apparatus" (lines 84-89).

Patent for "a calculating-yardstick adapted for use in connection with the dry goods or any other business in which goods are sold by linear measurement, the object in view being to provide, in connection with a linear measuring scale or rule, an indicating device provided with a plurality of price-scales having relation to the measuring-scale and adapted to indicate the price of a given length of an article at a given price per unit of measure, and also adapted to indicate the length of an article of a given price which may be sold for a given amount." Patent for an improved life boat that "consists principally of a central closed hull equipped with propelling machinery, and floats extending on the sides of the said hull and rigidly secured thereto, to support the hull in position." (Lines 12-16) Includes instructions and illustrations.

Patent for a simple and durable ironing table that is sturdy when in use and can be folded when not in use. The table is hinged to and held up by a vertical piece of wood. Two sets of legs cross and are centrally pivoted together, one being stopped by the vertical board. When not in use, the table swings up and rests on the board.

Patent for "lifting devices, and particularly to the mechanism adapted for use as a stump-puller and for elevating heavy weights, the object in view being to provide a simple and efficient construction and arrangement of parts whereby sufficient power for elevating heavy weights may be communicated to a rotary shaft or drum, and whereby the means communicating motion to the drum may be moved out of operative position and a brake simultaneously applied in order to relieve the operating-lever from strain when the mechanism is at rest." Patent for a square meant "to provide a simple and cheap steel square embodying also a level, an inclinometer, and mitrometer" (lines 13-15).

Patent for "a new and useful packing-case for food products" (lines 13-14), particularly for cured meats. It protects "against flies, souring, shrinking, &c., than the ordinary forms of packing" (lines 20-21). It is made from metal, stamped into a packing-case.

Patent for a tool for cleaning out internally-threaded apertures. This removes rust and dirt from screw-threads without damaging the threads, and is much less destructive than acid baths, heat, and screw-taps.

Patent for "means of which trolley-wires may be made to cross each other without contact and at the same time admit of the passage of trolley-wheels over each of the cross-lines." (Lines 11-15) Includes instructions and illustrations.

Patent for "a machine for properly positioning and securing metal plates to the cross-ties in the construction of railways, and which will obviate the coupling, buckling, or warping of the said plates when applying them to the wooden ties." (Lines 8-13) Includes instructions and illustrations.

Patent for a paper box that can be easily and securely locked. The ends of the box are locked into place with inwardly-curved edges, and slits receive the end portions of the inwardly -curved edges.

Patent for a stem for tobacco-pipes and cigar-holders designed to prevent nicotine from being inhaled. "The object in view is to provide a stem consisting of detachable members to facilitate cleansing when foul" (lines 11-14). The pipe is a serpentine shape and contains cotton filters in its crooks.

Patent for an improvement on the construction of the driving mechanism and brake on hand-cars.

Patent for a hay-press where "the plunger or traverser is arranged in a suitable frame and is drawn toward its rearward position by means of a spring. rods are connected to the opposite sides of the plunger or traverser, and these are in turn connected to a cross-head, which in turn is connected with a pitman provided on its outer end with a hook that engages mechanism to give it a motion which imparts a reciprocating motion to the plunger" (lines 15-25).
