Patent for "a new and improved blow-off cock and fire-extinguisher to be used on locomotives for cleaning the boiler, and at the same time serving to sprinkle wooden structures in the track, such as bridges, railroad-ties, trestles, &c., to prevent their being set on fire by falling cinders discharged from the ash-pan of the locomotive or from other causes" (lines 8-16)

Patent for "a combination-tool seeking to provide a single implement so constructed and inscribed as to be useful to architects, draftsmen, millwrights, machinists, and all metal and wood workers, and which shall be light and convenient to carry and may be quickly adjusted to its different positions for use" (lines 8-14).

Patent for "a machine of this class which chall be simple, inexpensive, and efficient in operation" (lines 9-11).

Patent for a new and improved clothespin. This design consists in "[a] wire clothes-pin composed of a pair of spring-coils connected by a loop, the free ends of the wire forming said spring-coils being extended in the direction of said loop and connected by a ring or link which affords a bearing for the said loop when the latter is inserted between the free ends of the wire" (lines 79-85).

Patent for a new and improved bucket-bail and lid-fastener. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the bucket and the ears, of the wires pivotally connected to said ears, the links pivotally connected to said wires, the cross-wire connecting the said links, and the bail loosely connected with the ends of the said wire" (lines 92-97).

Patent for "a device adapted to be used in tightening and splicing the wires of wire fences, which can be manufactured at a very small cost and sold at about five cents each" (lines 12-16).

Patent for a new and improved valve. This design consists in "[t]he improved valve comprising the casing, having a horizontal passage reduced at its central point . . . and a vertical bore intersecting said reduced portion above the point of intersection to its lower end and being screw-threaded its entire length, a stem having a tapered lower portion, the entire stem being screw-threaded to engage the threads in the bore, and a plug removably inserted in the lower end of the bore" (lines 1-11).

Patent for a compound to kill insects, formula and instruction on how to mix the ingredients are included. No illustration.

Patent for a new and improved burglar alarm. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the casing, the shaft having the winding-drum, the rope connected to the latter passing over a pulley and having a weight attached thereto, a ratchet-wheel at one end of the shaft, a pitman connecting said ratchet-wheel with the alarm-sounding mechanism, a spring-latch engaging the ratchet-wheel and having a cam-lever pivoted in a notch at its front end, the lamp having a scratch-plate attached to its burner, and the lamp-chimney having a vertical slot in its lower end" (lines 39-50).

Patent for a new and improved stalk-cutter and mower. This design consists, "with the shaft, having pulley and means . . . to rotate the same, of the pivoted links, the reel having its shaft journaled in said links and provided with the longitudinal cutters and with the pulley, the endless belt connecting the said pulleys . . . and the lever connected to the reel to raise and lower the same" (lines 9-17).

Patent for a new and improved lamp attachment. This design "is to provide sewing-machine tables with lamp attachments applied in such manner as that the lamp will cast its light upon the presser-foot and needle from the back and will not obstruct the table or interfere with the work, and when not in use may be swung underneath the table out of the way" (lines 7-14).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a plow carriage, having a sprocket-wheel attached to the driving-wheel, and a rotary mold-board provided with a sprocket-hub having bearings in the plow-beam, of a shaft journaled upon the carriage-frame provided with toggle or universal joints, and suitable chain or belt connections for the sprocket-wheels" (lines 69-76).

Patent for a press that is related to "letter or book presses" and it has "a simple and comparatively inexpensive construction, and which shall at the same time be effective and strong and convenient for use" (p. 2).

Patent for a new and improved padded hat. This design "is to provide a pad which can be quickly applied and when applied will remain in place, and by means of which a hat that is a trifle too large can readily be made to fit. . . . Heretofore persons wearing hats of odd sizes, or after having their hair cut short, have been compelled to place paper, felt, or some other material in between the sweat-band and the body of the hat in order to make the hat fit. These pieces, not being secured, are constantly coming out and are a source of great annoyance" (lines 7-19).

Patent for a new and improved lock. This design is "to provide a padlock having a two-part locking-bolt, each member thereof having separate and independent action and being operated by different means, each unlocking device being guided by a scale . . . [Also,] to so construct and organize the parts of a key padlock that the combination upon which it is operated may be readily and quickly changed, and to provide the key with a simple movable index which may be shifted to . . . indicate the proper point to which the key must be turned in order to successfully operate the lock" (lines 13-29).

Patent for a new and improved sash-fastener. This design consists "[t]he combination, [of] an angle-bracket having an opening produced in its horizontal member wider at its top than at its bottom, and an essentially yoke-shaped bar passed through the said opening, [and] a thumb-lever hinged in the vertical member of the bracket, extending over and parallel with the horizontal member of said bracket, and a lip integral with the under edge of the lever, concavo-convex in cross-section, and capable of entering the opening in the bracket and contacting with . . . the yoke-like bar" (lines 7-19).

Patent for a new and improved spring-hinge. This design consists in "[t]he combination of a hinge having one of its leaves provided with a casing and the other provided with curved projections, the spring arranged in the casing, and the rod engaging said spring and having the curved portion provided with trunnions engaging the said projections" (lines 65-71).

Patent for a new and improved gangway. This design consists in "[t]he combination, in an animal-trap having an inclined bottom and opposite sides, of a winch journaled at one end thereof, a movable platform mounted on the bottom and provided with opposite posts at its front end, a gate hinged to one of said posts, and opposite chains connected to the winch at one end and passing over drums located at the opposite ends of the sides, the opposite terminals of the chains being connected to the opposite posts" (lines 6-16).

Patent for a new and improved rope attachment. This design "relates to a novel and useful device which is adapted to be rigidly and substantially secured to the end of a rope, and which is constructed with a curved lip on its protruding end, so that when pressed over the loop of a snap-hook it will form a link or jointed connection of the snap-hook with the rope, ferrule, or clamp" (lines 12-19).

Patent for an electric belt producing "an exceedingly gentle and moderate [current], so as to insure the precise remedial results desired" (lines 91-93) including illustrations.

Patent for a simple, inexpensive self-adjusting file mounted on a revoluble base allowing the operator to successively access the several sub-divisions including illustrations.

Patent for a new and improved dry-kiln furnace. This design has "a grate at its forward end, a bridge-wall extending upwardly from the lower side at the rear end of the grate, a smoke-outlet in the bottom between the rear end and bridge, and a transverse flue under the furnace, open at each end and dividing the draft at the smoke-outlet, said flue communicating with the interior of the drying-chamber, and having a vertical baffle-plate under the smoke-outlet extending longitudinally along its bottom in each direction from said outlet, arresting the rotary motion of the products of combustion" (lines 24-36).

Patent for a new and improved dental-drill attachment. This design consists in "the combination, with the upper pulley and the supporting pully-frame of a drill, of a rod having hinged to its upper end the clip, having the set-screw, and having at its lower end the frame, having the wheel and the side-spools journaled within it" (lines 25-31).

Patent for a new and improved revolving signal-light: "[t]he combination, with a car-axle and a shaft driven thereby, of the lateral supporting stems carrying signaling-lanterns glazed in alternating colors, a shifting-lever acting alternately upon studs or stops of the said shaft, said shaft having a sliding movement, and gearing alternately with said signal-carrying stems" (lines 82-89).
