Patent for a new and improved combined whip socket and rein holder. This design "consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the pivoted whip-socket, its serrated eccentric face and bearing-plate, and a spring connected to the socket and bearing-plate, whereby the eccentric face is brought to bear automatically" (lines 20-25).

Patent for a new and improved baggage check and clasp. This design "consists in a novel construction and arrangement of a check, a direction-plate, and a clasp for securing said parts to an article of baggage" (lines 18-21).

Patent for a new and improved cotton chopper. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the rotary chopping-shaft, provided with the sliding gear-collar, the inner face of which is beveled round to form a shoulder, of a cross-piece, having a downwardly-extending perpendicular stop-piece" (lines 88-93).

Patent for a new and improved baling press. This design "consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the rounded meeting ends of the main levers and the equalizing-link connecting the same; the rounded meeting ends of the toggle-levers concentrically arranged with reference to the sill-bearings; the perforated connecting-pin for the upper ends of each pair of toggle-levers, and the securing-bolts thereof passed through the heads of the toggle-levers; the end openings in the lower portion of the baling-box and the vertically-reciprocating doors in connection therewith" (lines 19-30).

Patent for a new and improved combined seed planter and cultivator. This design "is to provide combined seed-planters and cultivators constructed in such a manner that the seed-planting mechanism can be readily detached when not required for use, and also in such a manner that each plow can be adjusted independently of the others when desired" (lines 18-24).

Patent for a new and improved cotton gin. This design calls for the circular saw blades of the gin to pass through two metal ribs, one of which aligns with the tip of the saw teeth, while the other aligns with the root of the saw teeth.

Patent for an apparatus for killing rodents "that may be used effectively for the destruction of all animals that burrow in the ground; and it consists in a furnace for the generation of sulphurous odors or other suffocating gases and a pump for forcing the gases into the burrows of the animals . . . ."

Patent for a new and improved car-coupling. This design calls for two u-shaped metal pieces, one narrower than the other, each with eyes at their ends. A metal rod, which doubles as a handle, threads the eyes, connecting the pieces and allowing for the two loops to butterfly; one car can be bound to each of the loops with a metal pin.

Patent for improvements in construction of cotton baling-presses.

Patent for a new and improved machine for welding tubes. This design "has relation to machines for welding flues; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of operative parts" (lines 22-25).

Patent for a new and improved spark arrester for smokestacks. This design "consists of an inverted hollow cone suspended within a hollow and flaring receiver for the sparks . . . so as to deflect the sparks against a conical annular cover to the receiver, whereby the sparks are broken and thrown against an arrester located over the hollow cone, and by which the sparks are again broken . . . and continued in that course until extinguished" (lines 7-18).

Patent for a simple, inexpensive, fraud preventing fare-box for street-railways.

Patent for a new and improved attachment for plows. This design "has relation to devices for guiding or directing shovel-plows, sweeps, or cultivator-plows, and thus release in a great measure the strain upon the arms of the plow[person] consequent upon directing the plow in its proper course; and it consists in the detailed construction of a device or attachment of that class" (lines 12-19).

Patent for a knock-down kitchen cabinet.

Patent for a new and improved flour sieve. This design has an "upwardly-flaring outer wall . . . and the inner more flattened conical guide-wall, provided with the wire-cloth stretched across its top and about its upper edge, said guide-wall being sprung into or secured to the crease of the outer wall, the latter extending downward to the level of the discharge" (lines 19-27). This results in "more accurately directed . . . deposit than if the opening were as large as that of the outer wall" (lines 59-61).

Patent for an improved window-sash lock.

Patent for a new and improved shaft coupling. This design "relates to couplings for shafts and the like, and has for its object to provide a simple, durable, inexpensive, and efficient means by which the shaft-rods can readily be adjusted at any desired relative angle" (lines 12-16).

Patent for a new and improved "horse power" (engine). This design "convert[s] the force expended by the horse—in pushing as well as in pulling—into power by the use of a solid shaft turned by the revolving platform and working inside of a sleeve-shaft, which is turned by the lever. . . . by means of which all the force expended by the horse is utilized" (lines 11-18).

Patent for a new and improved plow mold board. This design "consists of a circular roll arranged in the mold-board near the point and covered with belting, which, in the forward movement of the plow, is revolved and carries the earth backward on an endless belt passing around rollers journaled in the end of transverse slots made in the mold-board, whereby, in the forward movement of the plow, the belt is revolved and the friction of the earth on the mold-board decreased and the plow scoured" (lines 17-28).

Patent for a new and improved plaiting machine. This design "is to make the plaits with less labor and in less time than could be done by the plaiting-machines heretofore known or used" (lines 9-11).
