Patent for a new and improved cloth-measuring wheel. This design "consists in the peculiar combination and arrangement of the cutting-board with two standards, whereby the said cutting-board is made to act as a sufficient brace for the frame, as well as to perform the offices of a cutting board. The invention also consists in means for producing a variable tension on the cloth as it passes from the roll to the reel, whereby the tendency of different thicknesses of cloth to wind the cloth in greater or lesser lengths than the register indicates is compensated for and corrected" (lines 27-39).

Patent for a bailing press used in the milling and processing of cotton.

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "provide[s] a car-coupling, which in the event of a car running off the track and tipping over, will automatically uncouple; also, [it] provide[s] a coupling-pin which will be locked down by reason of the strain thereon when the cars are in motion; also, [it] provide[s] certain improvements in the details of construction of the coupling" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved frame house. This design consists of "[t]he combination, in a roof, of T-shaped caps or battens having in their depending tongues the transverse dovetail grooves, the roof-boards arranged above the grooves and below the horizontal and lateral arms of the said battens, and the purlins adapted to enter the grooves and grooved longitudinally to engage the said tongues" (lines 23-31).

Patent for a new and improved barber's paper clip. This design calls for "a clip formed by doubling upon itself a [flat] strip of metal," which will hold sheets of paper on which barbers can sharpen their razors. A hook exists on the opposite side, by which the paper clip can hang from the hot towel on the customer's face.

Patent for new and improved bed springs. Due to this design's construction, "in addition to the support furnished by the top spirals, the platform furnishes a broad level bearing for the mattress and prevents sagging between the springs or injury to the mattress itself. Also, the parallels, being springs in themselves, additional comfort and elasticity are added to the bed, and the springs themselves are more readily adapted to the varying width of the slats of different beds" (lines 25-34).

Patent for a new and improved cotton planter. This design "consists in the combination, with the slotted hopper-bottom, of the hinged and curved cut-offs and their spring, whereby the escape of seed will be prevented, except as forced out by the prongs of the feed-wheel" (lines 19-23).

Patent for a new and improved mosquito netting. This design "provide[s] a simple and substantial construction of frame for supporting the mosquito-bar that will admit of ready application to and removal from the bedstead, and also to provide a simple and effective arrangement of cords to the mosquito-bar, whereby it may be easily extended over the bed or folded out of the way by the occupant of the bed" (lines 12-20).

Patent for a new and improved seed planter. This design "features . . . first, reciprocating forked seed pushers or plungers attached to a sliding frame and operating alternately to deliver the seed through a covered opening in the bottom of the hopper, whence it passes into the furrow; second, an intermittently-rotating shaft arranged in the seed-hopper and provided with spiral or oblique arms for agitating the seed and feeding it toward the discharge opening" (lines 15-24).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design "consists in a lever pivoted in the front of the top of the draw-head and provided at its outer end with an aperture, through which the coupling-pin is passed into the aperture in the draw-head, below which lever another lever is pivoted, hanging vertically across the front-opening of the draw-head, and provided at the upper part of its inner edge with a projection, so that when the coupling-link pushes the lower lever inward the upper lever and the pin are raised, and drop as soon as the link has passed into the draw-head" (lines 10-21).

Patent for a new and improved indicator for scales. This design "consists in a weighted rocker and indicating-arm combined with a scale-beam for operation thereby . . . [it has] for [its] object to dispense with the slides heretofore used and provide for an automatic indication of weight" (lines 8-14).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design "relates to an improvement in . . . the construction of the mold-board and to the arrangement thereof relative to the plowshare. The mold-board, instead of being curved or concave, as has usually been the case, is . . . made perfectly flat, and so constructed that it projects at one corner slightly beyond the upper edge of the plowshare. . . . [C]onsequently the plow can be moved through the soil with less difficulty" (lines 13-25).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the adjustable standard-iron and the handles, of the transverse bar, clamp or hook bolt, and the pivoted adjustable brace, connected to the furrow-bar of said iron" (lines 87-91).

Patent for a new and improved stock for plow-trucks. This design "provide[s] an improved stock and suitable devices for connecting a plow to any pair of wheels and axle forming a part of a wagon, by which simple additional connections a farmer may construct a sulky-plow in a cheap and simple manner" (lines 8-13).

Patent for a new and improved oil can. This design utilizes a handle with a hollow tube leading into the oil chamber, so when the removable cap is unscrewed from the handle, air flows into the chamber, which allows the oil to flow. This eliminates the need for a spring-bottom as with other oil cans, for the flow of oil can be stopped by sealing the tube.

Patent for a new and improved governor for cotton gins. This design utilizes a moveable suspended roll-breast and a moveable rocking frame to regulate the amount of cotton fed into the roll-box. This design simplifies and cheapens gin production, and it makes the parts of the gin more adaptable to other gins of different sizes.

Patent for a novel bottle stopper. This design "consists in certain improvements in [bottle stoppers] whereby the outpouring fluid may be utilized to set in motion an automaton attached to said stopper" (lines 18-21).

Patent for a new and improved sash balance. This design "furnish[es] a spring-tensioned sash-balance by which the top sash may be held in close contact with the top of the window-frame or adjusted at a lowered position without hoisting the bottom sash. [The] invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and arrangement" (lines 9-15).

Patent for a new and improved holster for pistols and carbines. This design includes a button to be attached to the desired firearm, and the button is designed to fit into a groove attached to a strap. The strap is secured around a person or horse, and a tug at the handle of the firearm causes springs in the groove to release the button, thus freeing the firearm quickly and easily.
