Patent for an improved and inexpensive railroad cattle-guard that "can be readily secured to the road-bed of a railroad, as well as easily removed therefrom, as in case of needed repair, or for other purposes" (lines 19-22). The invention provides an uneven surface for the cattle to walk on.

Patent for an apparatus for loading cotton-bales onto trucks from the compress. It is comprised of a cylinder, a piston, a piston rod, an inlet and exhaust pipes and a valve, a chain with grapnels at one end end and the other end is connected to the piston rod, a sheave, an adjustable slidable trip rod, a pivoted trip lever connected to the cylinder, a four armed lever connected to the valve, and connecting rods.

Patent for chemical fire extinguishers "in which the acid-bottle consists of two concentric cylinders, the inner one of which is open at top and bottom, and which, when the bottle is placed in the cylinder containing the water and soda, potash, or other material, a compressed-air seal will be formed, preventing the acid and water from commingling; but when the bottle is inverted the seal will be broken, and the water and acid coming together will generate the gas." Patent for a "means for removing screw-threaded cores from cylindrical cotton-bales" (lines 12-14). It is made up of a wheeled-truck that is holding the bale, an apparatus that grips the end of the core, a way to revolve the grip, a driven shaft, and a universal joint that connects the shaft with the end of the core.

Patent for "an improvement in air-compressors for water-elevators, and it consists in the novel mechanism for compressing air, by which water is designed to be raised from a cistern, or other reservoir." (Lines 13-17) Includes instructions and illustrations.

Patent for an improved lumber-trimmer that has "a suitable carriage or number of carriages for conveying the lumber a series of swinging frames, which carry belted saws and also supporting-wheels, which wheels, if not tripped, will ride over the lumber, carrying the saws up with them out of an operative position, but which wheels, if tripped, will ride over the lumber, but permit the suspended saws to remain in operative position to trim the lumber at different points in its length, as may be desired" (lines 23-33).

Patent for a well-drilling apparatus meant "to provide improved means for adjusting and withdrawing drill-tools without removing the drill-rod to provide a folding reamer and means for adjusting the blades thereof, and to provide means for conveying water to the drill, whereby the drillings are carried up outside of the drill-rod or barrel" (lines 9-16).

Patent for a propeller-wheel for steam and other vessels. This invention is meant "to provide a propeller by which a maximum speed may be obtained without a proportionate increase in toe motive power employed" (lines 15-18). It doesn't have a lateral resistance of water and does not diffuse water in all directions.

Patent for a syringe that has "vaginal points adapted to be connected with the tube of a hand-bulb or fountain syringe" (lines 13-15). There is a tube with a bulb in the middle, a syringe on one end, and a cap on the other end.

Patent for a suspender device that is "a [rear] fastening device having a central loop, a coil, a keeper and a pin extending from the coil and engaging the keeper all formed from one piece of wire, in combination, with a slide having a linked portion surrounding and vertically movable on the central loop, and having a pair of ends or prongs projecting upward between the loop and the linked-portion of the slide to form tongues" (lines 81-90). The forward fastening devices attach to the ends of webbing.

Patent for a simple and efficient fire-grate that is meant "to be set in a wall between two rooms and capable of being reversed to enable either room to be directly heated by a fire" (lines 11-13).

Patent for a screen-operating mechanism for window-screens. It is meant to hide the mechanism from view and to improve the way the screen is raised and lowered. It also moves the "upper sash in one direction moves the screen in the reverse direction, the construction being such that the motion-transmitting gearing does not in any manner interfere with the use of ordinary window-sashes balanced by weights or springs, or the use of sashes of which the upper one only is movable" (lines 24-30).
