Patent for a new and improved wagon jack. This design consists "[i]n a wagon body raiser, the combination of vertical supports, a lever pivotally supported therefrom between its ends and having a roller in one end, a shaft adapted to be secured to one end of the body, a cord having one end connected with the same end of the body as the shaft and passing over the roller and its opposite end attached to the shaft, and a cord attached to the opposite end of the body and to the adjacent end of the lever" (lines 69-78).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design is "to provide a coupler . . . capable of being manipulated from the top or side of freight-cars and from the side or platform of passenger-cars" (lines 8-12). It consists, "with a draw-head provided with an upwardly-extending post, and a lever fulcrumed in said post, of a lock-link consisting of a horizontal body portion and a hook-extension at its rear end, and a lift-link provided with a nose at one extremity, the opposite extremity being pivoted to the lever and the nose pivotally connected with the forward end of the lock-link" (lines 55-64).

Patent for a new and improved cultivator. This design "is to produce . . . cultivators [that] can be adjusted laterally in relation to each other and turned at any desirable angle, and in which the frame and the beam can be made to stand at any desired angle to each other" (lines 17-23). It consists in "a semicircular frame, two vertical plates secured to the ends of the said frame and having their upper edges serrated, blocks placed between the plates, the plates, bolts for clamping them to opposite edges of the vertical plates, and the cultivators which pass through the plates and the beam" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved fire extinguisher. This design is "to provide for automatically putting out a fire in any building in which [the] apparatus may be located, upon the temperature in said building or room reaching any predetermined degree. This result is accomplished by the action of an expansible fluid—such as mercury—in a contained vessel, which actuates certain . . . mechanism, causing the structure to be flooded with water or with a fire-extinguishing gas or fluid" (lines 22-32).

Patent for a new and improved wire-tightener. This design consists, "with a curved metallic bar having a central groove in its convex side, and aligned openings of different diameters in the sides of the groove, of the looping-pin having two tapering arms at an angle to each other and of different sizes" (lines 78-83).

Patent for a wire stretcher for stretching wire to build fences.

Patent for "improvements in that class of topical remedies which are compounded for the purpose of relieving rheumatism, neuralgia, gout, toothache, sprains, swellings, bruises, sores, and similar afflictions. . .To these I add cotton-seed oil in sufficient quantity to make one quart of the medicine, the root and bark of the trumpet flower and the root of the pokeberry being boiled in the latter and the ammonia and turpentine being added on the cooling of the mixture" (lines 11-16, 31-37).

Patent for a new and improved vehicle wheel. This design is "to improve the felly-expanding devices, to provide a strong, durable, and efficient metallic connection between the spoke and felly, to provide novel means whereby the expanding movement of the felly is amplified by a partial rotation of a screw, and to otherwise improve vehicle-wheels" (lines 13-20).

Patent for a type writing machine that is small and portable, including illustrations.

Patent for "an improvement in machines for the production of writings for the blind, under what is technically termed the point system" (lines 8-11).

Patent for a new and improved stump-puller. This design consists, "with the main beam, of the rigid crosstree arranged transversely of the same and provided at its end with loose casters, and a pivoted axle or tree terminating in axle-bearings and provided with wheels, and means for adjusting the pivoted crosstree with relation to the beam and rigid crosstree" (lines 11-18).

Patent for a new and improved well-drill. This design consists "[i]n a drill, the cylinder closed at its upper end by a head with a stuffing-box and a tapering opening and provided at its lower end with suitable cutters, in combination with an operating-rod passing through the upper head and a weight, said operating-rod being provided with spring-arms adapted to engage and raise said weight within the cylinder and at the top thereof automatically to release it" (lines 27-35).

Patent for a new and improved track-walker's tool. This design "consist[s] of a sectional handle or body having a claw-bar and spiking-maul at one end and a wrench at the opposite end, the said wrench being provided with a stud upon one face, the distance between the outer face of said stud and the outer surface of the maul when the sections are joined together and the maul faces the stud being such as to correspond to the standard distance between rails" (lines 14-23).

Patent for a new and improved pump. This design consists, "with the working-barrel, of a casing or shell secured to the lower end of said barrel, the said shell tapering downward and being provided with an annular shoulder on its inner surface, a valve-seat provided with an annular flange and downward elastic extensions constructed to close against said shell and rest on said shoulder, and a valve-cage connected with said seat and containing a valve" (lines 82-91).

Patent for a new and improved trace-carrier. This design "consist[s] of a rectangular frame, a central integral transverse bar provided at its upper and lower edges with pairs of spaced-apart superficial ribs having central aligning bores, a spring-pressed bolt mounted in one of said ribs, adapted at its inner end to take into the opposite rib and provided at its outer end with a knob or head, a pintle mounted in the lower pair of ribs, a tongue pivoted upon the pintle, said tongue having its upper end reduced to fit between the upper pair of ribs and provided with an eye for the reception of the bolt" (lines 82-94).

Patent for new and improved tongs. This design "is especially adapted for the recovery of tools, broken sections, stones, or débris from artesian-well borings" (lines 54-57). It consists "of a solid or tubular shank provided with spring-metal tines, a ring to slide thereon, and a hollow weight sliding on the tube adapted to drive the ring down upon the tines" (lines 12-16).

Patent for "a combined planter and cultivator, including a cotton-chopper" (lines 11-12).

Patent for a new and improved system of road drainage. This design is "especially . . . for use on dirt and other roads, and adapted to quickly dry the road after a heavy rainfall without disturbing the road-bed. The invention consists of a drain arranged longitudinally under the road-bed and provided with outlet-pipes placed suitable distances apart, and each adapted to be closed at its outer end, and branch air-pipes also extending from the said drain and adapted to be connected with an air-pump for pumping the air out of the drain" (lines 10-21).

Patent for an improvement on stock cars to "enable the weight of the water-laden troughs to be overcome and the troughs elevated in position simultaneously through the entire length of the car; second, to regulate the movement of the water-troughs" (lines 16-20).

It consists in a "dickey, the same comprising a bosom divided down its center, a box-plait at the inner edge of each section of the divided bosom, said plaits registering with each other and the two faces of the bosom being finished alike, cross-straps at the lower ends of the sections, a tab depending from each strap, a flap between said tabs, and a collar-band connected to the upper ends of both sections" (lines 66-75).
