Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists of "a yielding draw-head having a horizontally-moveable coupling-pin and a pivoted lever connected to said pin, of a rotatable latching-plate connected with said lever by a rod or chain, a spring for acting on the pin-lever, and a spring-catch for engaging the latch-plate, said catch and latch-plate being disengaged by the pressure of the draw-head in the act of coupling, thereby releasing the retracted coupling-pin and allowing it to automatically engage the opposite draw-head" (lines 14-24).

Patent for improvement in regular car-seating (not baby car-seat) by enabling the seat to recline “like an ordinary sleeping-coach without the necessity of the upper berths required in a sleeping-coach.” (Lines 45-48) Illustration is included.

Patent for a mechanism that creates "an adjustable attachment for freight-car doors, for preventing sparks and other objectionable matter from getting into the cars, and means for operating the attachment that is adapted for use in securing the door in different positions of adjustment, and for connection with the body of the car by means of a seal-support, in order that the fixed adjustment of the door cannot be changed without breaking the seal" (lines 12-21).

Patent for a new and improved planter. This design, when used "as a corn-planter the slotted plate upon the inclined portion of the bottom is adjusted to cover the entire slot, and the pitman is attached to the pin projecting from the bar operating the seed slide, and when the machine is to be used as a cotton-planter the pitman is attached to the crank at the side of the seed-box, and the plate in the bottom of the box is adjusted so as to give the slot sufficient width to allow the cotton-seed to be forced through it" (lines 84-94).

Patent for a new and improved wagon standard. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a hollow standard and an extension having vertical movement in said standard, of a gravity-catch adapted to bite against teeth or serrations on said extension in order to maintain the same in an extended position" (lines 60-65).

Patent for a new and improved wire stretcher. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a block carrying bails or loops, and longitudinally grooved, of racks mounted within said grooves, a crank-shaft carrying a pinion, said shaft being mounted in standards secured to the block, pawls arranged to engage with ratchet-teeth formed in the racks, and clamping-jaws fixed to opposite ends of the racks" (lines 87-94).

Patent for a new and improved weight-motor. This design consists in "the drum having the ratchet-wheel, the gear-wheel having the pawl engaging the ratchet-wheel, the lever extending from the track and adapted to be operated by the wheels of a passing train, the push-rod attached to the said lever and adapted to engage the ratchet-wheel to rotate the latter, the rope attached to the drum and having the weights, the trip-lever to move the push-rod out of engagement with the ratchet-wheel, and the rod attached to the said trip-lever and having an arm extending in the path of the weight" (lines 48-59).

Patent for a new and improved torpedo system. This design is "to so place and connect the torpedoes that they may be drawn out of the way of friendly vessels, so that they will automatically resume positions that will interfere with the passage of [unfriendly] vessels . . . [and] the invention consists of a series or system of torpedoes that are connected to guide-lines that pass under anchored sheaves and lead to a point where the lines are all connected to a single manipulating-line . . . which common manipulating-line leads to the shore or to a position from which it can be operated from the shore" (lines 11-25).

Patent for a new and improved oil-press. This design "consists in certain novel constructions and combination of the pressing-plates with each other and the ram of the press, and in means for operating said plates in independent series, whereby great efficiency is obtained, and the plates, which are guttered or grooved, may be readily cleaned" (lines 18-24).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists of "the post or base section, having a perforated plate, the edges of which are bent up and formed with flanges and notches, and provided with the plate connected with the body of plate and separated . . . from the portions thereof, the gate-section having a depending arm, fitted to enter the perforation in the base, and having a second arm fitted for connection with the gate, and the roller, journaled on second said arm" (lines 90-99).

Patent for a new and improved rock drill. This design consists in "the combination, with the bit having the inclined cutting-edge extending diagonally from one end to the other and the curved recesses formed in the sides of the bit, of the passage-ways or grooves at either end of said cutting-edge opening into the said recesses" (lines 64-70).

Patent for a new and improved flexible scraper. This design "consist[s] of the concave board, the sheet of rubber secured by bolts to the concave face of the board, the handle, the sockets secured to the convex face of the board and handle, respectively, and the braces" (lines 52-57).

Patent for a new and improved fire-place blower. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the jambs of a fireplace, of a frame consisting of front-pieces detachably fastened to the jambs, back pieces fastened to the respective front pieces and formed with steps, and a top board connecting the sides of the frame, together with sections resting on the steps and forming a fire-screen and blower" (lines 10-17).

Patent for a new and improved fence. This design "consist[s] of posts, a barbed-wire line connecting the top portions of the posts, the horizontal slats, the vertical wires secured at their lower ends to the lower portions of the post, and looped around the slats and connected at their upper portions to the wire line, and thence extending upward and secured to the upper ends of the posts above said wire line, and wire loops passing around the ends of the lower slats and connected with the lower portions of the vertical wires" (lines 82-93).

Patent for a new and improved heel-brace. This design "consist[s] in a semi-circular rim provided with two downward side extensions, the lower ends of said extensions being provided with inwardly extending lugs adapted to lie under the heel of a boot or shoe, said rim being also provided on its rear side with a downwardly-extending projection shorter than the side extensions, the lower ends of the extensions being provided with openings for the reception of screws" (lines 63-73).
