Car-Coupling.

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the draw-head provided with a flange upon one of its sides, ways for securing said draw-head in place and allowing it a longitudinal movement, an abutment which is secured to said ways upon one side, a hook which is pivoted in the draw-head on the side opposite to the flange, which hook is provided with a weight for keeping it normally closed, and which has a notch formed upon its pivotal end, and a latch which is pivoted to one side of the draw-head" (lines 64-74).

Patent for a new and improved cotton-harvester. This design's "object is to provide thimbles which are adapted to be placed over the fingers and thumbs of a person, so as to provide artificial nails, whereby the cotton may be removed from the plants expeditiously, and which may be worn with comfort" (lines 18-23).

This design "relates to improvements in gates that are balanced by a weight and opened in either direction by ropes operating in conjunction with circular inclined tracks and rollers; and the object of [the] improvement is to provide a gate that may be readily opened and closed by a person seated in a vehicle" (lines 7-14).
