This design consists in "[t]he combination of the frame or support, the lever-arms, the winch and the ropes connecting the said arms thereto, the follower, the toggle-jointed levers connecting the said follower with the frame, and the rods connecting the joints of the said levers to the lever-arms, with the follower and the fulcrumed levers, having their inner ends connected to the follower and their outer ends connected to [a different] follower whereby the said followers move simultaneously when the winch is turned" (lines 83-94).

Patent for a new and improved sash fastener. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the casing having apertured ears and a front plate, of the rack-bolt having a head beveled on its rear face to fit a corresponding beveled opening in the front plate, the pinion, and the spindle, the beveled head being adapted to enter the beveled opening of the front plate and lie flush with the outer surface of said front plate" (lines 77-85).

Patent for a new and improved process for manufacturing oil-cake. This design "involves but a very slight change in the process ordinarily practiced in the manufacture of oil-cake by compressing it to remove the oil and form the residue into a compact shapely mass; and it consists in providing a paper envelope in which to press the seed, instead of the cloth envelope or bag commonly provided for the purpose, whereby [the design] obtain[s] greatly improved results in the manufacture, and a new article of manufacture possessing improved qualities" (lines 9-18).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design consists "[i]n a plow, the combination, with the beam, mold-board, point, and landside-plate, of a standard consisting of a longitudinal bar, to which the beam is attached, and provided with a transverse elongated slot, two downwardly-extending arms connected together by a cross-brace and having serrations and elongated slots on their extremities, and bolts, nuts, and serrated washers for adjustably connecting the landside-plate thereto, the forward one of said arms having a seat for the plow-point" (lines 69-80).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the draw-heads provided with projections . . . each having at its inner-portion a horizontally-elongated slot, and at its outer portion a vertically-elongated slot, of the horizontally-slidable coupling-pins, for respectively engaging the said slots" (lines 82-88).

Patent for a new and improved gate. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a swinging gate provided with a rearwardly-extending arm and a pivoted latch, of a crank-shaft journaled in said gate and connected to said latch, and an operating mechanism consisting of pivoted arms on supporting posts, rods or wires provided with loops and connecting the arms, one loop engaging with the rearward gate-arm and the other loop with the crank-shaft, and levers operating to give a longitudinal movement to the wires" (lines 65-75).

Patent for a new and improved writing aid. This design "is an improved device to rest the hand and give ease and fluency thereto in writing; and it consists, essentially, in a support made of glass, rubber, or other similar suitable material, and having very smooth edges to travel without friction over the writing-paper, in combination with a hand-rest pivoted and capable of a certain degree of motion thereon, and having connected to it the handle of the pen" (lines 18-27).

Patent for a new and improved plow. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a plow-point, of the curved guides or fenders recessed at their rear ends and provided with cutting lower edges, said fenders being detachably connected to the plow-standard" (lines 63-67).

Patent for a new and improved fan. This design "is fluted or corrugated . . . its lines of corrugation radiating from a common point. By this peculiar formation [it is] enabled to concentrate the surrounding air during its movement, and direct and carry it in a body back and forth . . . [and a] heavy bead or bar follows the zigzag or corrugated outline of the bottom of the fan, and serves as a weight to keep it tending downward toward a position of rest. . . . The frame carrying the fan is supported upon standards provided with broad footings . . . by which the fan may be readily moved" (lines 16-35).

Patent for a new and improved refrigerator. This design "relates to that class of refrigerating or ice-making machinery wherein a liquefiable gas . . . is introduced into a compression-pump and is compressed to a state of liquefaction, the pressure being subsequently removed, the liquefied refrigerating agent expands with rapidity . . . and, the frigorific' effects produced by the volatile liquid again assuming its gaseous state, is utilized for absorption of heat; and the invention consists in certain improvements in the construction of the gas-compressor and its adjuncts" (lines 10-23).

Patent for a new and improved saddle. This design consists in "the upper end of the pommel [being] chambered out to receive the compass, which is inserted within the pommel, and suitably, as by means of a gimbal-joint, held therein, so that the compass shall be operative in all or nearly all the positions which a saddle while in use may assume. A piece of glass or other transparent material through which the compass can be observed, is let into the pommel, so as to cover the compass and exclude moisture therefrom" (lines 35-46).

Patent for a new and improved wire stretcher. This design consists in "[t]he combination of a fence-post, the coupled pulleys mounted thereon and adapted to be simultaneously rotated, independent fence-wires extending in opposite directions and attached to one of the pulleys at points thereon that are arranged close together, and binding-sleeves for preventing the rotation of the pulleys after the wires have been stretched" (lines 14-21).

Patent for new and improved fire tongs. This design "is designed to produce an article . . . which will be practical in every respect, and which will prevent the slipping or sliding of the legs or arms thereof while handling the logs, enabling the latter to be grasped with a firm hold, thereby avoiding the numerous accidents that often occur from the use of the present form of tongs" (lines 9-17).

Patent for a new and improved shutter fastener. This design consists "[i]n a blind-fastening, the case, constructed . . . and provided with [a] projection in combination with the bolt having recess, the spring, the swinging catch, and the keeper secured in the window sill" (lines 45-49).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the coupling-box or draw-head and spring-pin, of the block, spring, and plate, united together as described, the plate being of suitable size to enter the bore of the draw-head" (lines 4-8).

Patent for a new and improved car-seat recorder. This design consists in "[t]he combination of the following elements: a car-axle, the depressible car-seat, and the recording apparatus arranged alongside the seat and consisting of friction feed-wheels, a paper strip, meshing spur-gears, and a puncturing device arranged vertically, a lever which operatively connects said seat and apparatus, and gearing which connects the latter with the axle, whereby movement of the car operates said apparatus and enables the record to be made by slitting the strip when the seat is depressed" (lines 22-33).

Patent for a new and improved harvesting-sack supporter. This design "relates to improvements in supporting devices for harvesting-sacks, being especially adapted for use in corn-pulling, and by cotton-pickers, and its objects are to provide means whereby the sack may be so attached to the picker that its weight will be distributed proportionately over the body of the wearer, and will not strain and tire the back of the person bearing the same" (lines 16-24).
