Car Coupling.

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the draw-heads provided with projections . . . each having at its inner-portion a horizontally-elongated slot, and at its outer portion a vertically-elongated slot, of the horizontally-slidable coupling-pins, for respectively engaging the said slots" (lines 82-88).

Patent for improvements in coops for fowls and other birds by using a combination of a cage with a door having a depending leg, a post and a lever for raising and lowering the cage; the cage door is “automatically opened when lowered and closed as it is raised,” (lines 75-76) "so that the young will be out of danger from attacks of rodents, collecting water, &c...," (lines 22-23) includes illustration.

Knee-Pad.

Patent for a knee pad to be used by berry or cotton pickers, or other workers that are often in a kneeling position. The knee pad consists of a frame made of "one piece of spring wire of rather coarse gage, a roller revolubly attached to the front end of the frame, and cloth or canvas stretched across the frame" (lines 23-27). The cloth is easy to remove and replace.

Patent for improvements in hoisting apparatus by “employing two cables and two sheaves that one cable and one sheave operate to elevate the weight or object in an approximately-vertical plane, so as to avoid contact with any side obstruction, while the secondary cable can subsequently be slackened sufficiently to permit the traveling sheave of the hoisting-cable to run off in a lateral direction and carry with it the sheave of the slackened secondary cable, for the purpose of transferring the object or weight to a desired position out of the line of the approximately-vertical direction first given to it.” (Page 2, lines 4-16) Illustration is included.

This design "consist[s], essentially, of the main frame having the part rising from its base, the yielding holding-blades having their upper edges beveled and formed as cutters and overlapping at their side edges . . . the plunger having its lower end recessed and provided with an annular cutting-edge, the crescent-shaped cutting blades secured to said plunger above its cutting point, from their convex edges forming cutters, the operating-lever, and pitman connecting the same with the upper end of the plunger" (lines 24-36).
