This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a fruit can or jar, having a continuous groove across its bottom and up its sides, of a U-shaped bolt resting in said groove, a cap-plate resting on the top of the jar and through which the legs of the bolt extend, and securing nuts turning on the ends of the bolt above the cap-plate" (lines 78-84).

Patent for an earth working machine that can be used for spading, plowing and stalk-cutting by arranging “a series of spades in a plane parallel with the axis of the machine and interposed spades in planes at right angles thereto, all attached to a reciprocating cross-bar.” (P. 2, lines [29]-[33].) The spades are adjustable in height and, it can be removed to use as a cultivator. For stalk-cutting, the plows may be removed. Illustration is included.
