Clamp or Fastener for Wire Fences.

Patent for a new and improved clamp for wire fences. This design "is to make a device by which the horizontal rails of a wire fence may be conveniently fastened to the vertical stay-wires" (lines 12-15). It "consist[s] of the metallic disk or plate with the curved cross-groove and prongs to hold the horizontal rail and the perpendicular stay-wire, and the key" (lines 69-73).

Patent for a new and improved padlock. This design "has for its object to provide an improved lock which, while simple in construction and operation, is at the same time so constructed as to be proof against the possibility of picking by unauthorized persons, and one which when unlocked will automatically release itself from the object and which locks of itself when sprung together" (lines 7-15). It consists in "a locking-lever pivoted at its center in said casing and provided with a locking-pin at one end, adapted to engage the shackle-perforation, [and] a leaf-spring arranged within the casing" (lines 1-5).

Method of Converting Mesquite Beans.

Patent for a new and improved method of treating mesquite beans. This is a design "whereby they are converted into a healthful easily-digestible article of food . . . or may be infused in liquid for producing a healthful or agreeable drink" (lines 8-13). It consists, "first, in a preliminary drying of the bean as a whole to eradicate moisture; second, breaking the thus-dried bean into short pieces to render it more readily affected by the heat . . . third, roasting the broken particles to render friable or more brittle; fourth, grinding the mass, and fifth, separating the powdered bean and outer pod from the hull" (lines 13-21).
