This design is especially "for seeding cotton; but the machine is converted into a corn-planter by detaching the bottom of the hopper, removing the space-block, disconnecting the pitman, and then removing the slide, and substituting in lieu thereof a device composed of a bottom, having a seed-opening, and a bridge-form metallic striker, arranged across the same, and a dropper-slide, having dropper holes" (lines 95-2).
