Patent for improvements arc lamps that "will be uninfluenced by the jar of the locomotive" (lines 17-19). Consisting of carbon-carriers rotated by clock-train.

Patent for a new and improved animal trap. This design consists in "the combination of the wire frame having the parallel base-arms, the coiled-springs, the upwardly-extending arms, and the downwardly-extending loop, the loop or ring on the bend and engaged portions of said wire, and the trigger-wire having the frontwardly-projecting point engaging said ring" (lines 80-87).

Patent for a new and improved planter. This design "has relation to that class of cotton and corn planters in which are hoppers smaller at their top than at their bottom and hoppers larger at their top than at their bottom, to adapt them for planting cotton-seed and corn, respectively. It is the object of the invention to provide the planter with interchangeable hoppers of the above construction, whereby either can be used upon the same machine, as found desirable, the hopper-seat being especially adapted to receive and hold thereon either one of the hoppers" (lines 12-24).

Patent for a new and improved back-band. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the back-band, the leather guard secured thereto, and the leather section secured to said band at one end of said guard and provided with loop and buckle, of the protector having slotted ends, and the strap connected with said buckle and having its ends passed through the slotted ends of said protector and under said loop" (lines 65-72).

Patent for a new and improved hame tug. This design consists in "the carrier . . . adapted for connection with the belly and back bands, constructed with a recess for the spring and provided with guides or ways for the tug-bar, such guides or ways leading forward and back from the spring-recess, whereby the tug-bar may extend entirely through and beyond the opposite ends of the spring-receiving recess, combined with the tug-bar and the spring" (lines 68-77).

Patent for a new and improved press. This design consists in "the combination of the manipulating-levers, the followers, and the toggle-arms, of which arms the outer ends of two are connected to the outer ends of the levers, while their inner ends are connected to the sides of the follower near its inner end, and the outer ends of the others are connected to the levers" (lines 96-102). The inner ends of these other toggle-arms have "their inner ends . . . connected to the sides of the other follower near its inner end" (lines 1-3).

Patent for a new improvements in the construction of the nut lock. Patent for "a new and improved version of the nut-lock and combination of latch or locking device in order to lock the nut to the bolt." (lines 8-27) including instructions and illustrations. Patent for a new and improved crank for sewing machines. This design "is to provide propelling device for sewing-machines and similar treadle-power machines which shall dispense with the treadle-action and injurious strain which its use imposes . . . It consists in a rod jointed to the fly-wheel after the manner of a pitman, but which, instead of connecting with a treadle, is fashioned into a handle, which extends obliquely upward toward the operator, and is combined with and held in place by a guide-frame made in the form of a pendent metal loop with flanged ends and screw-holes" (lines 8-21).

Patent for a new and improved shutter fastener. This design "has for its object the production of a simple and efficient device, and one that can be conveniently operated from the inside of the blind, but not readily tampered with or opened from the outside without removing some of the slats of the blind. . . . one part—a bolt—is carried by the blind, and the other part—a catch—is secured to the windowsill and locks the bolt, so as to unfasten the blind both hands are required—one hand to operate the catch, the other hand to operate the bolt" (lines 16-30).

Patent for a new and improved swinging gate. This design consists in "[t]he combination, with the main posts . . . [one] having the shallow recesses therein, of hinges, slotted batten, bell-crank lever connected with the upper hinge-bolt, and with a pin in the slot in the batten, spring, gravity-catch, gate, and roller" (lines 29-35).

Patent for a new and improved power fan. This design consists in "the combination of the slowly-revolving spring-barrel and the toothed gearing, the pitman-rod operated from the revolving gearing by a crank, the fan-lever connected to the pitman-rod, a weight sliding upon the fan-lever, and a ratchet mechanism for automatically raising the sliding weight" (lines 78-84).

This design consists in "[t]he combination, with a flat shovel and a shank, of the bead on said shovel having a transverse slot therethrough, a slotted wedge inserted between said shovel and shank, and a bolt passing through said bead, wedge, and shank" (lines 95-100).
