Patent for a new and improved locomotive. This design "relates to a locomotive running-gear and motive-power connection; and the novelty consists in the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts" (lines 15-18).

Patent for a new and improved t-square. This design calls for a triangular prism of a tongue, which enables more scales to be available to the work-person. The head, with its brackets and rabbet, will fasten the tongue in place while the work-person uses it.

Patent for a new and improved printer's galley. This design consists of a novel arrangement of the galley parts that "dispenses with the time, labor, and expense incurred in manipulating quoins and side-sticks, mallet, shooting-stick, &c." (lines 60-62).

Patent for a knock-down kitchen cabinet.

Patent for a new way to plant hedges, which "consists in an improved method of planting and training the cactus-plant (preferably of the species known as the 'scabbard' or 'brush cactus') to adapt it to form a thick and impenetrable fence which shall resist the attacks of cattle, and will grow regularly and evenly after the young plants have been properly trained" (lines 13-20).

Patent for a new and improved heel for boots and shoes. This design is for a hollow heel of malleable metal (e.g., iron) to be filled with some cheaper material (e.g., wood). This design represents an improvement over previous heels with its cheaper production cost and greater durability.

Patent for a new and improved rat trap. This design consists of "the pendulum bait-frame, in combination with triggers and attached to cam-springs and weighted trap-doors and rollers" (lines 59-62).

Patent for a new and improved quilting frame. This design "is a quilting-frame for use with sewing machines, consisting of rollers adapted to stretch the quilt or cloth in customary manner and running in bearings in a frame which is mounted on a suitable stand, which adapts it for lateral movement to follow the feed of the sewing machine" (lines 8-15).

Patent for a new and improved railroad tie. This design "has reference to improvements in railroad-ties of that class in which two metallic pot-sleepers connected transversely by a brace-rod are employed in place of wooden ties for supporting the rails; and the invention consists of two transversely-connected iron pot-sleepers, which are provided with a longitudinal box-shaped center portion, upon which the rail rests, said center portion being made in one piece with the sleeper, and adapted for storing therein signal telegraph wires" (lines 7-17).

Patent for an earth borer and excavator machine

Patent for an improved car coupling, including illustrations. "This invention relates to an improvement to car coupling, having for its object to effect the coupling of cars with facility and without danger to the operator, the coupling operation being performed automatically, and without requiring the passing of the operator between the cars" (lines 10-15).

Patent for a new and improved coupling for railroad cars. This design consists in "having [a] bell-mouthed draw-head, pin, plane-faced link, spring, and slide, having transverse plane face laterally secured in the draw-head by means of side guide-plates, [and] inlet into rabbets" (lines 85-90).
