"Within the semiarid region there are millions of acres of rich, fertile land, now barren, some of which will be reclaimed through irrigation, but most of which can not be irrigated on account of the limited water supply, and must be farmed, if at all, without irrigation.... This land is now attracting eastern farmers who are prone to risk failure in view of the possibilities in years of favorable precipitation. There have been many deplorable failures during the recent years which could have been averted had the unfortunate settlers fortified themselves against periods of drought by irrigating small parts of their land holdings. It is realized that to accomplish this requires an outlay of capital and if this outlay is great it precludes the possibility of such procedure. With a view to helping these settlers, this Office has investigated the use of windmills as a means of pumping water for the irrigation of small areas in connection with the farming of more extensive areas without irrigation. It is the purpose of this bulletin to set forth in a simple, comprehensive way the possibilities of irrigation, using windmills only as means of power." -- p. 5

The lines of improvement that will most easily and quickly double the present production per acre are as follow: (1) Improvement in the quality of seed planted; (2) improvement in the condition of the soil; (3) improvement in methods of cultivation." -- p. 3-4

"The rapid extension of agricultural operations into the sections of the United States where the rainfall is so limited as to make the problem of soil blowing a serious one has led to numerous calls for information concerning the best methods of solution." -- p. 2. Control of blowing of both sandy soils and soils from newly cleared lands are among the topics discussed.

Report discussing the origination and purpose of the Farmers' Cooperative Demonstration Work. The agency is primarily tasked with developing methods to control the spread of the Mexican cotton boll weevil, but it researches cultivation techniques for other crops as well, particularly corn and cowpea. This report summarizes the agency's preliminary findings.

"The plan outlined in this bulletin is intended to furnish suggestions and directions by which a school may establish and care for a small nursery. It is realized that school will seldom have the best kind of soil available, or be supplied with all the tools desirable to do this work with the best results. Consequently, the attempt is here made to give directions which will be applicable to schools with very limited resources." -- p. 6. Topics discussed include collection and storage of tree seeds, soil preparation, planting techniques, and transplantation of seedlings.
