Charles states to Mary that his only regret is that she and the rest of the family are not able to experience the wonders he is seeing in Colorado. He mentions their plans for that day and describes the landscape for Mary. He discusses the railroad tunnels and the people he sees traveling up and down Pike's Peak on mules.
