This pays about 2 per diem for which I am under obligation to make a per diem trip of about 40 miles on a hand car. What do you think of it; whatever you think dont publish it abroad as in case of the unexpected I might be deeply humiliated. Please be mum. You can tell Papa if you like. Also ask him what are his desire on the subject and impart them to me at an early convience. Your son, Byrd."
